Quantcast is better than Alexa - What you say?

This site also gives you a wide range of information about your site, just like alexa. But alexa is not considered as a good source for many webmasters, I think this quantcast site is better than alexa.

I have recently started using it on my forum and other sites and I am hoping to see some data in a few minutes.

The only difference between quantcast and alexa is that for using quantcast you need to enter a code on your site, but for alexa no need to enter any code.

Please share your thoughts about these two sites.

 

i like quantast too. but why would this site is related to marketing?>??

 

alexa is best

mabye we can have a lot of choose now .but for most website. we still think alexa is best and most of them accpet it

 

Thats some good information but i still think Alexa is a long way in front but i will try it on one of our Forum to see if it makes any differance.

 

No one knowledgeable thinks Alexa is the best. Alexa is popular cause it has always been free compared to Comscore and Hitwise - but it is far from being the best. Quantcast is probably one of the more accurate ones. I would even put Compete.com in front of Alexa. Alexa has a long way to go to repair its reputation for being way off in its data.

the best way to check that is by looking to your stats (let's say in google analytics) and then compare them with the results provided by compete and alexa. In my case Alexa is way closer in every result to my real analytics than compete.

Alexa is close to useless. Quantcast uses actual tag-based data so it qualifies as a legit data source. So yes, Quantcast is much better than Alexa.

 

Still, I don't like Quantcast. Unless a site is using its code snippet (and how many really do?!), you're looking at it's awfully unreliable estimate.

 

I don't know understand how both sites do basically the same thing, but the ranking data is so different. They obviously calculate differently. Does anyone know the difference in how they rank? Quantcast is more aesthetically pleasing...

 

Quantcast has good demographic data.

 

Alexa is spyware, and I do not promote spyware in any shape, form or fashion. Alexa uses a spyware tool bar to monitor the sites that its victims go to. Not everyone has spyware installed on their computers. In fact, most people try to keep their systems clean. So alexa is measuring just a very small portion of web traffic.

Quantcast is directly measured, so the numbers are more accurate and its not spyware. Quatcast uses a traffic tag that is installed on the site and usually at the footer.

I have used quantcast on and off for about a year, and I do not recommend it to anyone. Every 3 months or so, they change your account number. This causes your traffic charts to go to zero. Then you have to get the new code and install it on all of your sites. At one time I was using quantcast to track 6 of my websites. Every 3 months I had to start all over again.

The one thing that really mad me mad - if you get over 1,000,000 page views a month, it takes about 4 weeks for your traffic to level out. Then 2 months later its all erased and you start over again. If you have a big site, you might get 2 months of traffic measurement, then they will reset your account number.

If you like playing games, and trying to guess when quantcast is going to change your account number, then fine go ahead and use them. If you want a real directly measured traffic tag, find someone else.

Just "why" the people at quantcast reset your account number, I do not know.

Currently I use http://webstats.motigo.com/ but have only used them for about a week.

And as for a "real" comparison between alexa and directly measured traffic, if you sell advertising on your site, advertisers want to see real numbers, not estimates. Once you start using alexia numbers, those are just estimates and you are selling you and your site short. If you want to sell advertising to serious companies, give them exact numbers that was measured directly. If I went to a website and wanted to buy banner space, and they gave me "alexia" traffic numbers, I would have to walk away. Because I want exact number and I want to know what I am buying.

 

I still prefer Alexa.
