Hi, What does mean Quality site? We just open a web directory. After open it lot of people inform me web directory depends on quality listing? Please advise me what exactly mean quality listing? Waiting for good suggestion?
Thats basically up to you, your choice to decide what are quality sites and what are not, we all have different standards. I dont think theres a universal understanding of what qualifies as a quality website.
Hi, In my point of view, Quality of a web site is always based on its content. Compare a web site to a shop. A shop has to be attractive when you see it otherwise you will not walk in. Once you are inside, the atmosphere needs to be pleasant otherwise you will not want to spend time in it and will not be in the mood to appreciate the products it offers. It is also important that the customer can find easily what he or she is looking for otherwise they will go to another shop. A web site is the same: if the site is ugly, people will not want to go in and have a look. They will get irritated by long download times, flashing things and inappropriate music, They will get even more irritated if they have difficulties finding what they are looking for. In the end, it is maybe better to have no web site than to have a badly designed one because a bad web site is giving the message: “Look how unprofessional we are!†In practical terms a web site needs to be user friendly, clear and easy to navigate. It needs to present good information about your product and make the visitor want to “buy†the product or use your services.
You probably should not have opened a directory before knowing how to operate one. There is a lot more to it than loading a directory script.
There are 10001 points that can define a quality web directory. You must probably first research for yourself that what is quality. If you still don't know whats quality then no one can explain the same to you.
Like others said, quality is a matter of perspective and opinion. You are going to have to decide whether you want to simply list every site that is submitted as long as it can fit within a category. You will have a larger directory that way but most here would agree that you will have a low quality site that will eventually collapse under it's own weight and non-usefulness. Assuming you want to build a useful resource, as your question implies, you are going to have to come up with criteria of what to include and not include. Basically, you have to answer questions like those that follow... Do I want to be family friendly? Do I want to allow gambling, pharmacy and other similar adult sites? Do I want to allow sites like auto-blogs that have no original content? If the site is not something I would find useful as a resource, do I list it anyway? If the site offers little-to-no information but includes tons of advertising does it get added? If the site breaks Google's TOS do I risk linking to it? Does the site have a ton of annoying pop-ups? ... That should get you started thinking. I can tell you that you will find your standards, assuming you decide to follow some, will and should change as you review each listing. I agree that you should have thought more about this before starting your directory but you are doing better than most who never consider what makes a quality listing and a quality directory. Good Luck!
Quality depends on your own choice. You should decide what type of websites you want to list in your directory. Do you want to list domains that are just built for getting PR so that they can be used for 3 way exchanges and then thrown away? Do you want to list page with 5+ advertising units on them? Do you want to list only 'beautiful sites'? You decide the guidelines, publish them to the world and edit your directory accordingly.
