    Dear all,

I'm currently building custom WEB DIRECTORY module for the SEO Website CMS and I came across one very interesting discussion....

Is it a good idea to have Web Directory within a Quality Content Website or not ??

The thing that bothers me is the following: when you have too broad keyword variety and too much outgoing links to different types of website this will make it very hard for the SEs to figure out in what niche your website is populating and might rank it very poorly for its targeted keywords.

The question now is the following: Should I have the directory as a sub-domain or I should keep it in a sub-folder ????

    Please discuss!

    Thanks,

    Venetsian.

subdomain is treating as a new website. If your directory is related to website then use sub folder rather than subdomain (IMO)

    Dear DFence,

You're aware that when you have directory within your main site and you have a niche content site then the directory will lower the quality with all the outgoing links/votes to other non-topic websites.

    InternetWebsiteDesign,

I also think that it should be better to have the website in its own sub domain and therefore not have this keyword melting. BTW the good thing about that is that you can have multiple incoming links to the main page (if you set it as reciprocal requested) and this will help you rank very well. And as far as I know nobody really cares about the linking page (from the web/domain owner point of view )

    Anyone any suggestions??

I'm curious why only two people voted and showed comments. Does this mean that there are only few good SEOs here ????? (I'm challenging you to show out )

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

I like it on subdomain, it is easier to promote than directories in folders. :)

It just seems to me that if it's a directory full of other links to things totally different that your main sites topic...it would work better in a subdomain...

with a subdomain on my control panels...you can get to it through site.com/subdomain anyway...so for the reasons where you would want it linked like that you could simply make your link site.com/subdomain instead of subdomain.site.com...(though this might hurt you on terms of non-unique content come to think of it...)

I'm planning on adding a directory as well..and was going to do directory.site.com...for the simple reason as it would be seen as a a different website so i could promote it in a totally seperate fashion if i wanted too...

    (unless i'm thinking backwards here...)

Adding both subdomain.domain.com and domain.com/subdomainfolder will most definitely push me for Duplicate content and might get both domains in the Supplemental results page ... so one should stick with only one of those ..

At least that's my opinion on it ..

I'd definately recomend subdomain and that's the main reasons why:

Nowadays its this big discussion on "AUHTORITY" links and how search engines are calculating the relevancy/niche of your domain keywords by looking at the websites that link to you and you're linking to aka the network.

This discussion let me beleive that linking to highly relevant websites for your keywords will show the SE that you're from this network and will award you better for this keywords.

    Cheers,

    Venetsian.

Another vote for subdomain. You don't want all those OBL to fiddle with the rankings/quality/trust of your primary site.
