Hey to all. A close friend of mines is in deep search for a "qualified google adwords individual" He is looking for one who can consult on whats best for the keyword approaches, how he should optimize his prices for better ctr against competition etc. And of course most of all manage his google adwords account. As soon as one that is interested is talked to and has met the qualifications we will start the job IMMEDIATELY. Thanks and good luck!

Personally (although I have one), I wouldn't read too much into the GAP qualification - it tests whether you understand how to manage an account from a technical perspective, but there's very little in terms of testing your ability to optimise the account.

I believe that word-of-mouth is generally a good way of telling whether an Agency's reliable or not. From some of the accounts that we've taken over from other Agencies, it's fairly clear that having a GAP qualification doesn't mean that you know what you're doing!

Alternatively, look on the companys' websites, and see how much original content they've written about Adwords (guides, blogs, etc).

I'll second CustardMite's comment (I seem to be doing this a lot recently). The GAP certification is a good indicator, but it's no guarantee. The requirements are relatively easy to meet for anyone who's able to answer a few questions and has managed a decent budget and in my opinion it's entirely possible to find a GAP who is less competent than a non-GAP.

That said, it's a good question to ask why an individual or company isn't a GAP when the process is relatively straightforward. The answer to this question could be very revealing.

Jon (and yes, I'm a GAP)
