@ critters , damn you are experimenting with your dollars, do you have to much of them?

 

Well, a small update:
As I removed the images mid month in July I will compare the averages from June (with images) against the averages from August (no images)

Removing the images above ads all together resulted in a drop in CTR by 2.93x

I can't post the CTR % or daily earnings, but you can post total earnings for the month & impressions, so here are some figures:

With images (June): (impressions / earnings) USD 0.0069
No images (August): (impressions / earnings) USD 0.0015

So the average visitor is worth 4.6x less without images.

As the drop in value/visitor is greater than the drop in CTR I can only assume that the ads are also worth less, smart pricing must have kicked in. The most important figure though is the drop in CTR by 2.93x

For September I will be taking the latest advice from Google and putting the images back BUT with a clear border between the images + the ad units. I predict this will cause the CTR to go up by 2x and then average around 1.5x

 

Anybody else doing a test to see what the difference is with the images (or like Critters after removing them)? I haven't added images to any of my AdSense Pages but I'm willing to do a test too - for a month with images added.

 

The problem is that G sometimes places 3 ads in a leaderboard and sometimes 4 , you know what I mean?

 

Yes, that is quite a new thing. :/

 

Doesn't matter too much about that - it still draws the attention to the adds.

1) how many of u hv adopted the suggestions?
2) how many of u hv adopted then removed the suggestions?
3) how many of u hv not adopted the suggestions.

I 'do' come into batch (2)...[within 10 hours I removed images.] [err...including the poster]

Of course it's best to ask G., but if the ad units and images are very clearly seperated from each other(+margins), then showing images upon ads wouldn't be against the terms, would it?

Thanks, however I think keyword reports are a crock of crap and I wills tells you whys:

1) Building a site around a keyword will be boring, you will not have any "love" for the subject and I much prefer to make sites about things I like/love

2) A site made for a top paying keyword will never get the amount promised in the report
• There are 1,000's of sites chasing that keyword and the top paying ads will be split amongst them.
• Smart pricing will prevent you from getting the full amount unless you are producing a good conversion rate for the advertiser

3) In your chase for those high paying ads you risk breaking the following TOS rules:
• Do not load pages with irrelevant or excessive key words.
• No Google ad may be placed on pages published specifically for the purpose of showing ads, whether or not the page content is relevant.

4) Stop trying to pimp your list "cashkeywords with 4 posts person" I have not chased any keywords, and as you said "pig" is not high paying, but it made me a happy sum this month, so it goes to show you don't need keyword lists. But thanks for the idea for one of my first articles on my new AdSense blog "why keyword lists are lame"


If anyone (including cashkeywords) thinks any of these points are wrong, or has any more points to add, or thinks keyword lists are a good tool, please post here or PM me as I am writing an article on it and there is very little on the subject (other than "they are amazing" on keyword list sites)

Critters, I am not going to hijack this thread with whether or not keyword lists are legitimate or not. I realize I only have 4 posts and no credibility here, but I made a genuine offer of something I can give, that's all.

If we were all meeting in person, I would probably do something else (I don't know....like bake a pie or be able to say a heartfelt "thank you - it's been great").

I apologize since I have clearly offended you (and if you are offended, other people are, too).

 

Guys have you noticed that the vertical ads are not affected by the new ad change, all the others switch from 4 or 5 ads to 1,2 or 3 ads but the verticals seem completly unaffected.

If you design your site with images going verticaly then i guess this would solve the problem with the ads matching the images all the time.

I made some experiments. I have tried this.
On some of my Sites I put the vertical Large Rectangle (336x280) Ads and mostly ist shown ONE ad instead of 4 :-( (sometimes 2 ads).

I think really that google has seen Critters posting (ore the many others in www) - ore so many mailed google asking for images above ads. And Google immediately changed it! Also because of this Googlechange the CTR/money is falling extremly down now. I think that is the cause - but it doesn`t matter.
(we can nothing do.)

So I make now new experiments
Today I made pictures like this (for the 728x90):



I hope it will come better.

did you made the experiances and do you know weahter for the 728x90 ads WITHOUT images are all 4 ads good shown or not? Ore is this the same as WITH images?

Because I am thinking to remove the images maybe.

Wally, I dont think those images are 100% in complience with the TOS. google wants generic images, and the first pic is clearly about photoshop (it just so happenes the ad is also about photoshop, but it could be anything).
It might be a good idea to change the images to something more general before, otherwise you might run into trouble later.
