I went to your site to see your vertical treatment of the images and AdSense ads... and I was MORE impressed with your ingenious layout!

You have managed to make your navigation look like an adblock... and the horizontal adlinks and ad unit next to the images look more like CONTENT. That is awesome. Glad Google gave you the "all clear", too. How cool!

I saw this being used on a site recently but didn't put 2 and 2 together. Thanks for giving me 4. I am testing it out on my name search site.

Interesting - not sure if you guys have seen it, but Google is playing around with ad formats - a 728 banner can now display 1 ad, 3 ads, or 4 ads according to my experience so far - which causes potential alignment issues for those that are aligning 4 images up expecting it to be 4.

I've seen this on different formats: they display sometimes less ads than they should - but I explained it as Google didn't have enough advertisements...

I don't think it is to do with not enough ads, it is something to do with an algo that serves the best paying ads. I'm too tired and lazy to find you the notice about it but I know I read that somewhere.

If you log in to adsense, there's a notice about it on the Reports overview page.

    Something to the effect of:
AdSense now optimizes your ad units on the fly, to present the ideal number of the most relevant ads available! Read the What's New page for details

OK, but read the whole thread (especially post #442 on) and especially inform yourself about recent Google policy changes regarding images near ads.

Critter, I just visited your site and I noticed that you had removed the pics above the Google ads. Why? Did Google tell you to stop?

Maybe he wants to increase his CTR by making it look different than everyone elses? LOL.

Welcome to DP, RenFromPenn. I am also curious about this, Critters? Did they ask you to remove images?

I removed them to see the change it would make to CTR, and CPM.
No they did not ask me to remove them
