Quadrupled my CTR thanks to DP members.

CTR X8 since flipping the nav bar with the ads on my site, ads on the left is certainly the sweet spot. Must try yon image idea soon...

 

They (CNN) are using an image+ads method on the US edition, near the bottom of the home page.

Wether, in this case (we don't know), the image idea comes from Critters and AmCy, or not, they might say something like "it's just a natural evolution of online advertising to overcome ad blindness...", blah, blah.

There is another idea on that ad unit, a menu to change the topic of the displayed ads. I think Google was testing this kind of unit some time ago (just text, without the image), but maybe Yahoo was also doing it at the same time, who knows.

Probably Google pioneered contextual advertising, but now everyone is copying all related ideas. Here, whoever is not running is flying (© old Spanish saying).

 

In short, everybody is taking the credits.

oh no he's back......

 

It was ALang's idea to couple an image to a horizontal AS ad unit (I seen it done vertically before, but it was on ALang's website that I first saw it done horizontally. I took it a step further by creating a simple table and coupling 4 unique yet uniform images to a single 728x90 AS ad unit. Critters implemented the idea on his highly popular website, and shared his results with everyone by starting this thread.

Critters also deserves much credit for offering some very sage advice throughout this thread, the best being to always ask G if you aren't sure if something you are going to implement is going to violate the AS TOS.

I am no longer in the AS program, having had my account disabled (most likely) for my hard headed views and interpretations of the TOS. It is clear that I don't have the right personality for the AS program, but I am glad that many folks have benefited from my input here on DP. DP is a great website, and there are lots of great members here.

Google replied today and told me that there was no TOS violation on my Cellphones and Gadgets Trendsetter blog.
