I think this is a great step forward for adsense users. I don't see Google changing the TOS around this issue at all. I think pertinent pics will do wonders.

I also think someone said about using random images (ie images of exploding watermellons above ads for dating sites) so they get the users attention, but they wont click without reading first.

I think it was more the fact the images were "crazy" than random (rotating).

Sorry to burst the bubble, guys. I had the exact same setup as many of you now have. Google's email:

I have now set up the border as requested. Before that, the setup was exactly the same as the setup many of you have.

No you didn't. You had clickable images that we're links. They weren't just 'images' like we have set up.

You should really paraphrase the emails from G. They frown upon the practice of posting the content of any correspondence.

On my site I am using Crit´s advice but my images are all static, relevant to the overall topic of the site and each have their own links underneath. I asked the big G if this was acceptable and got the all clear. Maybe you might want to throttle back a bit and aim those images to pages within your site. It still works.

    My CTR still trebled.

He should just not link them full-stop - why give the user a chance to click the image? Then they won't read what's beneath it and figure out that's where they're supposed to click instead. If they hover over the image while reading the ad text, they will think the image will bring them to the advert because of the change in cursor.

Don't link the images, and they will know to click the underlined text. Simple, really!

    Hey Critter

I noticed on your pig and frog site that the images near AS had disappeared... how come?

Got out to 91 on the shot a frog :) Is that good?

You've made some valuable contributions in this thread

    thanks

I've adopted this image placement trick too. And for even one day, it already appears to help a lot in terms of CTR. But instead of general images, I've placed screenshots of my work(it's a firefox extension), and I inserted a linebreak between them and the ads.

I wonder if that is ok, what is the email address to send to Google to check with them?

The edit button goes away after a day or a couple of hours. I.e. enough time to make some minor tweeks, but reasonable IMHO since sometimes people will go back and re-write what they said after-the-fast.

G has just emailed me back. They are requiring publishers to place a border around all images next to Google ads.

Ditto here - they said contrasting color border around the Adsense Ad block is required.
