Oh, I'm sure there was. I won't actually do what I said above considering the fact it would detract too much from the content with giant red arrows floating around the screen.

What you could do is put that numa numa kid in 4 animated gifs above a leader board. I wonder how THAT would effect CTR :)

I think animated images (similar to the ones used on the pig site) will be at some point banned. The flashing images draw attention to the ads...

What a great thread! Though, Critters, did you see the add for pig slaughterlines on your site? A bit creepy IMO.

    Hi soul-healer,

Welcome to DP! This place for sure is wealth of information and knowledge.

You said that you have a mp3 download website and you are running google adsense. To my understanding that might be againsts Google's TOS.

    Thanks for the nice comment.

The mp3 i am giving to my visitors are Legal, no copyrights issues.

But the thing is that the music ads are not paying well, any suggestion for me to start another site or do some content of keywords changes to increase the revenue.

    Hello everyone,
My name is Jonathan Regan :)

I would like to jump-start this thread again, because I can't bear this
golden information to slide into history. Some gurus are likely to turn
this single Adsense tip into an ebook, sold for $97. lol. Stupid gurus.

Anyway - back to my thoughts. I decided to implement the idea of
having nice attractive little images, shown above my Adsense ads.
Guess what? CTR exploded. Nothing fancy or new yet ... but ...

Have you ever wondered what type of images pull attention?

Ok, here is a case study based on my own website. I have a website
based around car information. It has thousands of pages, and receives
a lot of visitors each day. I rotate small 120x70 pixel images using the
PHP based rotator script initially discussed in this thread, and CTR is
high. But, I then started to research further ...

If I have hundreds of visitors arriving each day, would I be better served
by displaying fairly standard "car" related pictures? OR, should I look for
pictures that are just CRAZY. Ok, by now you are wondering WTF?

Let me explain. When a visitor arrives at my site, their eyes are drawn
to my image/Adsense area. But, initially I used small stock photos of
fairly boring car pics. I have seen other webmasters doing this within
this thread. Pictures of Adobe photoshop boxes etc. Just plain boring.

Guess what happened when I replaced my fairly boring pictures of cars,
with exciting pictures of cars? CTR nearly doubled again. Let me explain.
I looked for cars on fire. Literally on fire with smoke pooring out.

Pictures of cars surrounded by police men, holding guns pointed at the
driver. Pictures of cars, overturned - upside down. Crazy concept cars.
Cars with stacks and stacks of people jammed into them.

The point is, that you can take this advice and use fairly normal pictures,
or you can get really creative, and find pictures that REALLY grab your
visitors attention. Why stick with a small little boring picture, when you
could use an attention grabbing idea to attract even more attention to
your Google Adsense advertisements? (Position them under etc).

So, ask yourself "How could I make my boring images FUN and WEIRD?"
and then if you are stuck - head over to Google Images:
    http://www.google.com/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi
and type in a funky keyword combination. For example, I used "burning car" -
    http://images.google.com/images?q=burning+car&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images
(Now those types of images certainly grab my visitors attention!)

Ok, perhaps you can't find any images that would work for you, but don't
stop there. Hire a graphic designer to CREATE some whacky images for you,
specifically relating to your content, and Adsense advertisements. OH NO,
I could never do that? Sure you can! Just join http://Scriptlance.com and
put a project online, and ask someone to hand create you a bunch of cool
    images.

Anyway, my point is this. By the time you have read this thread, you should
have decided that this tactic WILL DEFINANTLY INCREASE YOUR CTR, so
now that it is do-able, do it better than the rest. Get those funky, crazy
images. Grab the attention of your visitors. Suck their eyeballs to your
whacky picture, and underneath - a nice "related" advertisement.

In my case, I have second hand car sites being advertised through my
Adsense advertisements, and sitting above them - "cars exploding into
flames". On another website of mine, I have dog training advertisements,
and above them - pictures of DOGS doing handstands and smoking ciggs.
Weird huh? Just use your imagination, and your pictures will quadrouple
your CTR. It really works. Get funky and fresh. That's how you win this
    game.

    Keep this thread alive. Woot!

    Jonathan

Wow, that is cool. I never thought about trying that. Maybe I should try that on some of my site's and see what happens.

tesla, you may just be kidding; but I put this up as an example of where a line is...In my view this is over the line. Dancing pigs...great. "Click...." arrow? An invitation to Google to say "goodbye".

Which is too bad because the site is rather nice.

I just try this technique on my site, you can view it here. The images + ads is at the footer.

    Hope it goes well.

    Any comment?

    Thanks

Align them left (the text in the ads is, so should the images) and use more bolder images, shrunk down web pages are just a bit pale and bland.
