one guy I was talking to said just to buy expired domains there is no pt. to buying sites up and running. this has to do with my other question, we are trying to jump start a travel business doing hunting and fishing, can you put a price on how much you would pay for x number of visitors per month, etc?
Have you considered what it is you're asking? You're asking us to estimate the value of traffic. Like this YOU WILL FAIL! If you count on someone outside your niche having any idea of that, you're wrong. And what kind of visitors do you want? Anything but American visitors are worthless I guess? I suggest you set up a proper website. Perhaps hire someone to make it look real nice and then you start off by doing some local advertising - leaflets, newspaper ads, sponsorships etc. And then perhaps try a facebook campaign, where you give out a price if people invite their friends to the group and then you can say the group needs 50,000 members at least. You don't just want random traffic. It needs to be targetted. You can use google adwords for this, but it's very costly and for a newbie it's a potentially enormous loss if you don't know what you're doing. Or try setting up some sort of affiliate system so people can refer their friends and when they buy something, the person who refered gets a percentage of the sale.
Don't you hate it when people don't even bother to answer your questions. Yes, you can put a price on visitors, but the price is based on the quality and quantity. Who are you buying the expired domains from? Registrar or broker?
like Joes said: you need to know what kind of traffic you are buying and how to keep it growing instead of slowing.
