Hi there, I read that google does not follow nofollow links to the linked site. Does that mean that google counts that link as a backlink but it doesn't go to the other site from that particular link? Is there any value to the nofollow links?
Google does not count these links towards the linked page's link profile. I don't think there is any value for Google seo, but those links still help rankings on Yahoo, MSN and other search engines. Of course they can still give you direct traffic too.
Nofollow links mean no backlink for Google. As of yet, it makes no difference on any site except Google, but no doubt the other search engines arn't that far behind Google, so it's best to have as many dofollow links as possable. Teenage Genius
Other search engines gives importance on sites with no follow attributes, links from them are still a relevant factor for their rankings. Unlike big G who doesn't count no follow links on ranking keyword.
No follow links DO count for something. In my Webmaster Tools I can clearly see yahoo answers links and Wikipiedia links - both of which are NO FOLLOW.
Logically, I agree with this. In case of Wikipedia, e.g., why would it benefit Google or improve SERP listings to honor Wikipedia's "nofollow" policy. Actually, those "nofollow" links probably should carry lots of weight...
nofollow links are not followed and link juice not passed. but are they indexed?i have seen my posts being indexed in Google which were nofollow
No follow means that link will not be followed..hence no back link benefits. Thanks Donna @ Budget Hotels
Sadly, nofollow means just what it says. However, the down side is that people who have something genuinely useful to add to a blog are penalised in that they get no backlink. Obviously, bloggers do not want rubbish comments such as 'great post' on their blogs just to get a backlink. They will usually delete these anyway so why not allow 'dofollow' comments as they can always delete the ones they think are spam?
