putting subdomains on an existing site

    Hi all

I have a site with loads of different categories, e.g.

    www.zoo.com/elephants.php

    www.zoo.com/gibbons.php

and I think i've been persuaded by this forum to change to

    www.elephants.zoo.com etc

so, seeing as my site is already indexed, is it worth setting up subdomains.
Will they get me anywhere? What about duplicating my content?

Should I even bother, now my site is indexed is it worth the effort?

    What would you do. TIA

I have a challenge that some of my forums are actually in a subdomain, forums .thelaw.com which can also be accessed via www .thelaw.com/forums/

I can remove the subdomain but am wondering whether I should. As of right now it's set up similar to the way digitalpoint is. I've only removed the link from the logo from forums.thelaw.com to direct to the home page and put up a "forumhome" link in the menu bar in the even that users want to go to the forums home.

I've seen various different theories on whether the forums.domain.com is a good idea although it seems to work for digitalpoint, lol. :D

If all your pages are indexed, might as well leave it alone

But if you were going to start more topics, like i.e.

    Directory.zoo.com

    That would be ok

I don't see why you want to go to subdomains. If you don't have a specific reason to change, stay the same.

Thanks guys, I didn't remove the sub. I just linked the home page graphic as a www.thelaw.com instead of forums.thelaw.com and the links will continue to work from the engines.

You might also do a redirect on the subdir, to make sure people use the subdomain.

I'm confused - the logo is just the one in the header -- the digitalpoint forums points to forums.digitalpoint.com instead of www.digitalpoint.com/forums. Not sure if this is preferable. All I did was straighten it out since there is no need for users to use the subdomain address. Also not sure how Google handles those multiple points of entry, forums.... versus www..../forums
