Putting back cover on watches...

OMG how hard can it be?

I've been trying the whole of today, trying to figure out an easy method to put the back cover on my Tommy Hilfiger watch after replacing the battery.

It's impossible - it has this rubber ring on the outside, presumably to stop the water getting in but it also stops the damn thing fitting into its place.

I've tried everything except for the hammer and I don't really want to go that way. I don't suppose anyone is a genius and has a brilliant idea that makes this process terribly easy?

I just took my hubby's watch to the store for a new battery, went to Kay Jewelers - they fixed it in about 5 minutes - NO CHARGE!
