If 100% of people supported this idea, 100% of people would put a charitable AdSense PubID into their CP but they don't.

The rev share is a feature here meant to reward some posters. If you take it away, then that reward goes away. It kind of defeats the purpose.

If Shawn wanted to donate the money, he would just take away rev share completely and donate the money...It would be a lot easier

Well yfs1, it doesn't always have to be 100% otherwise nothing would ever get done, and also I think a lot of people would put their ID but for some reason or another either don't know/care haven't...but I think if it was a mandotory decision to put in your pub id or charity ID and people knew the facts of how much they make individually and how much the whole group will generate, 90%+ would choose the charity option... ;)

Also you say it defeats the purpose but I think the proposed purpose is much greater

And finally ofcourse it is Shawns decision but I'm sure we have atleast a tiny say in it :)

I guess my issue is the tone of this thread...Syaing that people care about rep more then charity...That no one is responding to such a great proposal to help people.

The truth is, I bet you more money has gone to Charity from DP members then any other forum. Just a few weeks ago Rob posted his friend was in trouble and needed help. DP members gave nearly 4k

Before that thousands were sent to New Orleans through DP members.

Before that thousands of DP members paypaled money to help those affected by the Tsunami

In addition, most of the senior posters here (including myself) already have a charitable pubid in or CP

I admire your intentions but I guess my issue is more with the whole "people don't care because they didn't reply angle"

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence in my attention span Emil. Rather I am meeting the requirements or not, rather I last past the first check or not, is not the question. You asked a question and I offered up an answer, just because it was not the answer you wanted to hear is no reason to slap me aside with a you "will not last" statement like you made.

If you do not want to hear from sides other than your own, why ask the question?

Uhm...I wasn't reffering to you...it was just an example I said I understood where you were coming from it is a discussion and I explained to you why that is not the case...basically it was...

If you depend on AS you are probably gettin paid out atleast every 3 months in which case $6-$15 are not that significant...

If you are not then you probably dont depend on adsense...

Didn't at all say anything about you...

    Agree!
Charity is something not to brag about.
Most of the senior members are doing it silently and do not brag about Rep points either.

Its really Shawns decision...I already use a charity pub-id

Plus I gave my other reasons for not making it mandatory in post #21

The whole rep analogy came from all those stupid threads I see about rep, that are like 400 response long with people saying how worthless it is, and yet continuing for pages...

    Sorry probably bad analogy...

But that is because a small group of people talk about anything and everything no matter how little bearing it has on the real world...It isn't a charity vs stupid threads situation....Its a sanity vs. stupid threads issue ;)

    Yepp the analogy wasnt appropriate.

I agree that charity should be taken more seriously, but again you can not ask every newbie to donate his income to charity funds!

I think its best the way it is now.:)

No, its not that you directly offended me. Like I said, your intentions are good and you are a good guy so no worries. My advice was to just back off from criticizing people for not responding.

Maybe put together a tutorial on how to put Dominics Homeless Charity PubID into their CP which you can refer to fro newbies. Usually people PM Dominic but you could easily start a thread outlining how its done (Complete with the id they should use)

Actually, an Option inside DP Options where you enter your Pub ID, to actually select 1 or more different charities where you would want your rev share to go to. There is a charity organization that is chosed by default, and then people can change it to any of the others available in the system, or enter their own PubID.

    Makes sense ?

I like it even simpler then no monthly voting...

Cause I like Dominics idea but personally would like to be able to donate to other places, like CCF

If needed also have an option to put the money to your account, but make a charity the default ;)

How about that then everybody wins :)

you don't get it, do you?

the whole idea is to make people think they can earn anything with the rev share, to make them join the forum and contribute a bit.
It's never about the money :p

That's how I use it in my forums at least ;)

Don't think DP has any problem with attracting members, it is quite different, people come here to network and learn, not post for rev share millions :D
