Purchasing old domains for SEO: Need your help

    Hi everyone.
I need help with information and guidelines about purchasing old domains (websites) for SEO purposes. I promote heavily on the gambling industry, and in my niche (local language) I see many webmasters who purchase seemingly old websites with completely unrelated subjects and have high. Then they completely modify them to the new industry (gambling).

As a part of my SEO strategy I want to build a small network of satellite sites (6-8 sites) which will support my main portal, giving it link & pr "juice". To save time, I want to also engage in purchasing old websites. However, I feel that I lack sufficient knowledge to do it properly and I fear of a complete waste of money. My questions are:

    1. How do webmasters who purchase old domains with the purpose of altering the content completely, deal with penalties by google? I thought of simply leaving the indexed pages and only alter the default index file. so essentially, all the old indexed pages will be availalbe, but will not be accessible from the default index page. However, I see that this is not the tactics they use. Then how could they retain their PR?

    2. How to circumvent the /whois change issue? Which services allow leasing of domains? Is it common practice? Are there any alternatives? What's the best way to tackle this issue?

    3. I see many PRed domains which are parked by hosting companies. Is there any value to buying domains with PRs if they have no indexed pages?

Any other information you can provide me including links to documents with relevant information, will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

If you're going to buy older more established sites, you're going to be stuck with the burden of maintaining and promoting them as well. Rather than buy them for SEO purposes, what I would do is buy them as investments and let them continue to mature. I really can't say much more than that since I don't know which sites and domains you want to acquire.
