Purchasing domain name: Questions

I have found a domain name that I would like to purchase.

The questions that I have are:

    1. How should I phrase or pitch that I would like to purchase their domain name?
    2. Is a phone call or email the preferred method of contact?
    3. If the person agrees to sell, what is the preferred method for the transaction that will protect both the seller and myself?
    4. What can I do to show them I am legit and serious about purchasing their name?
    5. Are there any other things that I need to consider?

    thanks,

    1. Not sure what you are asking here - you phrase or pitch a sale - not a purchase
    2. Either method of contact is fine - I find most people in tech prefer emails as they are too busy to take calls - maybe try email and then follow-up call
    3. If it is a high dollar amount - use an escrow service - otherwise use paypal or credit card - obviously, avoid Western Union or mailing an envelope full of cash ;)
    4. Um... tell them you can pay immediately?
    5. Not sure - it is fairly straightforward - you agree on a price, the DN is pushed or xferred and the money is paid

    Hi,

I just went throught the entire process so I thought I would share...

    1. Just a simple email will do. Hi, I am so-and-so. I am interested in one of your domains, abcdef.com. Do you have any intentions to sell it. If you are, can we discuss this further. Thanks for your time.

    2. For me, the owner came back with a price. We bargained a little and finally settled on some middle ground.

    3. I used an escrow service to facilitate the domain transfer and payment.

    ;)

    Thanks.

I think I will try the email route and provide my phone number if they need to contact me.

Jobs, can you suggest an escrow service?

Email is generally the best option.
Use an escrow service if you want to ensure both parties to be protected.

I used Moniker.com . They are a registrar as well as an escrow service. :)

    Good luck !
