One of my companies offers custom t-shirts and spirit gear to local schools and non-profit groups. We usually upload customer's designs and some of our own in-house designs. Then students and parents go on the site and order the designs they like. I am thinking about expanding the design selection and would like to know what the best approach to buying new designs might be. I guess I could run a contest and pay for each design we actually like and add to the site. Does anyone else have any ideas on how to develop/purchase new designs? I want to be fair to the designers but it is speculative on my part because I will not know if the designs will actually sell until I get them on the site. Therefore, I have to watch the design costs to stay profitable.
i could design some what sorta designs r u looking for? what is the site? i wanna see some of the current designs.
I appreciate all of the offers via PM and I will contact some of you. But I was not exactly fishing for design offers but more looking for what you guys think is a fair arrangement or a good way to do these. It sounds like just a straight $XX /design is probably the best way to go.
Hi getvisible, Can you link me your site? I use to to work with a friend who made some custom t-shirts for a uni project, we ended up making a fair few, if I can find the designs I can sell them to you for a good price. However, if you need designs doing also, I am able to do that with experience, although with no portfolio unless I can get back my mates project and photo it. I can explain more via PM or IM. If your interested, PM me. Cheers, James
The designs will mostly be used for sports teams. Similar to this one: Again, once I decide the best way to purchase the designs, I will post in the buy/sell section. It was not my intent to solicit offers in this section. Just to discuss shirt designs and how some of you like to work on these types of projects.
If you want to save money & not feel obligated to pick that many designs due to your budget: 1.) Start a contest thread in the contest forums on DP. 2.) Stipulate the amount for each design chosen. 3.) Most print companies convert designs to vector prior to printing (Optional - Insist designers have to provide a vector format) 4.) Stipulate that you may or may not purchase 1 or more designs from the contest & that you have the right to cancel if nothing appeals to your target project. 5.) Stipulate that ALL designs MUST be original & that NO copyrighted clipart or other copyrighted elements may be used at all. (Also add that Violators of copyright laws may be reported to their appropriate authorities) 6.) Encourage other designers to point out copyright infringements & provide a link showing where the infringement came from as proof. (Most of the good designers do this anyways to help protect the sanctity of designers in general). 7.) Stipulate the contest end date 8.) Provide feedback as much as possible (This both helps a designer produce what you want & encourages other designers to join the contest when they see the CH is actively participating). 9.) Stipulate that ALL PM entries will be automatically disqualified (Reason being is that more & more novice designers are trying to pass of copyright infringed work in pm below radar so other designers don't point it out & bust them). 10.) Stipulate that by purchasing a design, the designer transfers & relinquishes "ALL rights" to the design. (You might even want them to send you a copyright release form, or have them sign one you put together). The above are just a few tips on running a successful DP contest that provides more protection for you. Good Luck!
Awesome specs Scorpion! I will definitely use them! That is why I started this thread. I want to make sure that: 1.) I am not encouraging the cheap/copyright infringing/cut throat design process 2.) That I am free to use the designs that are developed 3.) That everyone feels like they are being treated fairly and enjoy designing for me I don't want a bunch of people looking for a quick buck but if there are creative and talent folks out there that can spend a little time to come up with new collegiate/high school/sports designs, I am willing to pay if I think I can sell them. Again - I appreciate all of the PM offers but this thread is for discussion of the process. When I have everything prepared, I will post a new thread. Probably a DP Contest.
