Purchasing and Selling Domains on Godaddy

    Hi all,

I've just purchased a domain and I wanted to just create a site and sell/flip straight away. Is this possible. I noticed it says Transfer locked until 19/01/2015: New domain registration.

Do I have to wait that long till I can sell the site? Or can I sell/push to another godaddy member straight away?

    Thanks in advance...

You can do an account change from your godaddy account to another's godaddy account. Transfers to another registrar will be locked.

    Let me explain.
When we buy domains, and sites, we consider the word "transfer" to mean to hand over the ownership of the domain and site to someone else.
However, in the domain business, the word "transfer" has a different yet specific meaning. We use the word "Push" to signify handing over the ownership of the domain to someone with your CURRENT registrar, that is, you can push it right now to anyone that has a godaddy account.
The word "transfer" would mean to move it to ANOTHER registrar. In your case, you would not be able to move it to somewhere such as namecheap, until that deadline has passed.

Typically, but not always, once a domain is pushed, there may be additional length of time before it can be transferred. For example, If I purchased your domain today, you could "push" it to my account under my ownership. But it might take 60 days before I can move it from MY godaddy account into MY namecheap account.

Such rules are in place not to restrict sales, but to reduce fraud. Once a domain is transferred away from your registrar to somewhere else, it is next to impossible to recover it.
