Hey... I was wondering if anyone would be able to give me advice on a query I have. I'm currently thinking about registering a domain name in a .co.uk extension. However, my dilemma is that there is already a domain name registered with the .com Where do I stand with this? Is it illegal or just morally wrong to purchase it. I've been after this domain name for a while but unsure of what consequences may be should I purchase it. I would also like to note, that the .com domain isn't in use. It's just a page with advertisements on it, stating that if you wish to buy the domain contact the provider. In my case its held by BuyDomains and upon checking they want almost $3000. The website would be a hobby, not a business venture. Thanks in advance for any advice/opinions you can give on this matter.
There is no problem in registering same domain name with .co.uk and you can go with this without any fear. Instead of paying 3000$ to them, buy fresh .co.uk domain and spend this money on new domain development and this will bring more better results.
If the .com has a global trademark that will stop you from doing anything similar with the .co.uk - but doesnt stop you owning it, just stops you offering the same services/products AND means you cannot make money from the domain if your methods are similar to their business model. (If its a business)
Of course can , if you able to use the same keywords with different domain extension then you should go ahead before it take by others. If they do not do any trademark on the name , then you can purchase it and even sold them if they want to as long the domain name is profitable to you .
Well, in cases like these I tend to think along the lines of Insanity Wolf. But yeah, previous poster is right. UK audience and all, buy the name. Nothing illegal about it and if exclusivity was such a problem for the .com owner they would have bought them all, most places actually try and force you to purchase all similar names
