What would make a forum worth $50,000?

Backlinks, Age of site but most importantly the monthly income that the site brings in. If the site brings in a lot of income monthly it could be worth $50,000 or more.

Income would be probably one of the only factors to push a forum that high. However I have sold low income forums for $xx,xxx. Really it depends on the buyer.

What would a forum with like around 100,000 posts and tons of activity be worth?

    It depends

You only have 1,000 members, but you do have 100,000 posts

    Without ad revenue amount known

    Maybe.... I'll take a guess at $2000-5000

Here is what you do. You take the monthly income through ads and whatnot, multiply that by 10 and add $100 for every 1,000 members and $100 for every 1,000 posts.

Let's say you have a forum that has 3,000 members, 5,000 posts and makes $250 a month.

    $250 times ten = $2,500
    3,000 members = $300
    5,000 posts = $500

    So, $2,500 plus 300 plus 500 = $3,300

That's my way of finding out what forums are worth ;)

A forum which can bring in excess of 25000 visitors/month through search engines ...

To create a forum like that the pre-requisites are immense ... A few of them have been quoted above ...

All figures and stats need to be genuine ... You forum also must be very well known for it's quality of content ... Content rules !!

i would say a couple million posts and a large active database of members.

tbh, its really hard to make money with a forum, you need to be creative, because ads alone wont do much as you have a decent amount of returning traffic which would not click on the ads.

It depends. I've been paid several thousand for forums in that range.

What's the quality of the content?

How many unique visitors day/month ?

Can you monetize the site better than the current owner?

Will the existing member leave if the site is sold?

There are several issues that come to mind.

It's more complicated than number of links and raw stats.

15 - 20,000 ACTIVE members with over 5 millions posts, over 750,000 threads and very little income monthly, less than 1000.
