purchasing a domain name alternative?

    hi,
i am new to adsense and i am a student, hence it is a lot of money for me to afford a domain name. i can probably get some free hosting from somewhere (not guaranteed), and was wondering if anyone knows of a free alternative to buying a domain name/ hosting for my site, and if this will affect my adsense earnings a lot?

    thanks,

    jaiburn

Yes. If you cannot afford to buy domain and hosting go for blogs (blogger.com or googlepages, etc.)

    Wishing you good luck. :)

BTW, visit "Buy, Sell or Trade" in this forum. You can earn few dollars by making forum posting, etc. which can pay you for domain name, etc.

im not a student but im in the same boat - didn't want to invest a lot of money up front to "test" my adsense venture (not suggesting $20/year is a lot of money, but you get the idea).

i created my site (www.babycanada.ca) by registering the domain through www.netfirms.com. it's like $5 for the year (my .CA was a little more) and free hosting if you dont mind their ads at the top. once i see some results with adsense. there's no reporting capability and other limitations like no php, etc. but im working on setting up google analytics and other 3rd party stats/counter programs. i will upgrade their hosting package once i am confident with how everything is working.

    good luck :)

or.. you could sign up with a (free) service like dynamic dns and get something like sitename.dyndns.org and point it to the ip of your site? (home PC, etc...)

    http://www.dyndns.com/services/dns/dyndns/

p.s. thanks for getting my brain-wheels moving. i think i may use this!

can anyone think of any negative issues with using dynamic dns for helping with hosting a site? will google's robot not like it as much since the URL isn't an actual domain name?

i got a domain from go daddy for $9 and use free hosting from 110mb. They provide 2 GB web space, 100GB monthly transfer, and so far i have a 93% uptime on my website (All very good for a free host). For just $9 a year i make $5 a day from adsense. Here's their website, 110mb.com

Incase you need, you can also go for .INFO domain names [which will cost you only $1.99 at godaddy], and assign the domain name to the blogger blog, to make it a complete website updated by you regularly.

Google will also approve your blogger blog quickly for adsense if it's in compliance with their T&S.

I had also started initially with blogs when I was a student. All the best dear! If you need any kinda of guidance, just PM me.

thanks for all the help, would you recommend 110mb.com and a dyndns domain name (or a .info one as i can afford $2) or would would you still recommend blogger?

i am not really a blog writting kind of person, but can i still make normal quality informative sites using a blog, or does it have to be structured liek a blog?

    thanks,
    jaiburn

You can buy .info domains for $2. And try 50webs.com for free webhosting. That is the best free hosting site I have seen. They have unlimited monthly bandwidth , no ads. Change your nameservers of the domain to their nameservers.
