Punished for too many social bookmarking backlinks?

Is it possible or likely to get punished by google for building too many backlinks across social bookmarking sites? Like I have nearly 100 posts on a blog, and I'd like to submit each and every post to some social bookmarking sites. I would probably submit all the posts I currently have over the course of about a week and hope the social bookmarking sites don't mind.

Even after the original submissions I would like to continue submitting the links on an almost weekly basis to continue getting some backlinks.

Am I going to get punished or possibly even sandboxed for having all these links coming from social bookmarking sites? I already have just over 2,000 links without social bookmarking sites but they are limited to the home page and 1 of the 100 posts. I'd like to get this number up a bit higher on the content pages.

Any advice? This is a whitehat site currently making money. I'm already front page so I don't want to jeopardize it by getting sandboxed while attempting to get higher.

If Google punished a site for too many of a specific link it would be too easy for a competitor to damage your rankings.

Having said that, I would not grow links at a faster than natural rate for a new site. If your site has been around longer than a year it shouldn't matter.

Depends if its nofollowed or not. But given the large amount of links on a social bookmarking page, the links dont pass much power. Use social bookmarking for visitors and search engine discovery.

There is no reason why they would.

I don't think that there will be any penalty from Google if you submit a lot of your blog links to social sites. however, the better social sites may block you for submitting too many posts for the same URL in a short span pf time

i think vithca is right , you should build links natural rates, and also take qualities only

Go ahead and use social book marks...just point some of the links to a few interior pages as well. However, don't go out and get 100 in one day. Those type of links are powerful. Use with caution combined with a nice blend of article links too.:)

IMO Building links at natural rates takes time and effort but is worthwhile in the long run :) .

I was planning on creating a bot specific to each social bookmarking site as I add them. Maybe I could run each bot to submit 5 a day. With the addition of 1 new post a day it'd be about a months period before I'm caught up but I think that makes more sense.

Seeing as I don't monetize the majority of my traffic I don't much have any interest in the general fake traffic from social bookmarking; rather the SEO benefits for the backlinks being built.

I will probably throw up some adsense for the month I plan on doing this though.

Make sure that you are varying your link anchor text and any post/summary/description text nearby. Many identical entries will set off the alarms and get a smackdown. Learned that one the hard way :p

no, it is very unlikely. If google did punish sites for too many social bookmarking links, sites like yahoo news, BBC, CNN, Fox News,,,, would have been banned a long time ago.

Go to stumble and take a look at some of the popular bookmarks, some pages have been stumbled thousands of times.

No search engine is going to give your site a penalty for anything like that.

Such links will never punish you, they'll simply be ignored. You'll get 0 points, not -x points.

No, no it won't. This rumor needs to be cleared up, Google has told us they do not penalize for duplicate content, spread the word, please.

200 posts in a week span, and I assume you are just talking about one bookmarking site here, is I guess too much. And we all know what too much linking can do right?

If I were to suggest, I'd say you should submit around 3-5 consistently instead of forcing out around 40 per day. And if you really have the time, give them around an hour or difference for every submission. This will make you look very active on that bookmarking site with your name and post seen every hour.

And by the way, there are a lot of good bookmarking sites, so you might as well spread those posts.

I'll keep this in mind. It would have worked better had I started with social bookmarking right when I started with my blog. I'll do it slowly to keep from hurting myself.

well i would be careful - essentially your footprint has to look natural... and its highly unlikely that your each page of you blog would be bookmarked - i would pick a page or two and begin there, as if that page for some reason was found useful by lots of ppl, then work add a few to the home page, a bot is going to look very dodgy and staged...

Pick the most relevant pages of you site and bookmark those, if you want to try your bot... set up a new site on a shit long tail keyword with no or low enteries and try it out... dont jepodise your site... a few well placed bookmarks with aggrigated friend feeds and such would make them look better.. also if you go an register a bunch of new bookmark accounts that would look dodgy n get tagged for spam (by the SMB provider) id take your time and make a few 4-5 differnet profiles which linked to different things beyond the SBM (like friend feed n twitter etc) and then start there...

Good luck... pace your self-- even if you make 10k your not going to see the results untill some time away... dont make the rod for your own back i guess...

    Peace

I think Google is getting more intelligent all the time so I would watch the volume of my posts. Several hundred in a week could be considered spam. Just my 2cents...
