Publishing homework, projects, presentations etc

I know there are many websites which publish school or university homework, projects, presentations etc. so that anyone can access them.

However, I'm not sure whether there are restrictions.

e.g. I make a PowerPoint presentation about a company and present it at school. I obviously use different images, logo of company, etc. to which I indicate a source.
Can I put the presentation online so that everyone can download it?

Also: if I want to do online journalism, can I use trademarked/copyrighted content as part of what I am writing about?
e.g. I write about Google, so I put photos of the Google Headquarters on my website

    Is this allowed?

    Thanks

In any 'report' there is the permissible allowance of 'fair use' of copyrighted material. 'Fair use' has no clearly defined statement as to what is or what is not considered as 'fair use', although the following link may be helpful to you:
    http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

If your use of copyrighted material is simply for the purposes of reporting on a company, like google, the example you used, then this would most probably fall under the banner of fair use, especially in an education type environment.

As far as images are concerned, however, you may require permission of the copyright owner of the images prior to using them. In the cases of companies like google ( if they owned the images) contact with them explaining the usage would most probably be met with a favorable response in the circumstances.

Many companies are in fact quite favorable towards usage of their property in these circumstances, and usually all it requires is a short request.
What angers and annoys many copyrights owners, is blatant use without any permission!

Another consideration of course, is whether or not the copyrighted material is a type of material that is normally sold for profit, or at a price, and you simply intend to try and usurp that. That would not be overlooked! An example of this type of scenario would be trying to use an image which is normally sold for public usage at say $10 per usage.
