I own a DVD video about 1 hour in length and would like to convert it and embed it onto a website for my users to watch.

Is it best just to convert the DVD to .FLV or .SWF and then upload the file to my website and embed the file? Is this the best way to go about it?

My vote would be for the .flv file. But you could probably just try one of the two and then see how it works out. Worst case scenario, you switch to the other one a few days later. It involves a little extra work on your part, but at least it will give you experience with both so you'll know what they are like.

By the way, is this a DVD that you made yourself or what?

It is a DVD about selling information products on eBay and another one just talking about selling on eBay which I own rights to....Don't worry I would not even think about putting a Hollywood video on a website lol. :D

you might want to split up the video for non-broadband viewers

Yea I was going divide the DVD up into 4 15 minute sections. hmm I think it is wise for me to outsource this project. What do you think a good rate would be? There are 2 DVDS total, each one needs to be split up into 4 sections for a total of 8 videos :)
