I was wondering what software is used to secure the download page to make sure people purchase before downloading. I was also wondering how easy it is to setup.
A common thing to do is to put "nofollow, noindex" tags (the page won't be included in search engines and won't be crawled by robots) on the thank you page, but people find other ways to get to that page... Below is the HTML, which has to go into the <head> section of the page.
I was thinking more along the lines of software(I hear DLGuard) is very popular.. I just wanted to make sure something like that wouldn't be to difficult to install and run.
I actually don't use anything like that and I haven't seen any evidence of anyone stealing my product (I could see if anyone suspicious loaded up my "thank you page" via StatCounter.) But that may be because of the niche I'm in (weight loss.) Perhaps in more tech savvy niches you'd have to be more careful about it. I just use noindex, nofollow on my thank you page and that's it.
I don't really care too much about it. People who aren't prepared to pay for my products will find a way to get the information for free anyway.
Yes, but from my understanding its not even hard for a "normal" person to figure it out. So what you're saying is that you just put in the nofollow, noindex meta tags, and just have something a person cant guess as the extension to the download page?
yep, just don't call it download.html Rename the page every now and again. Casual thieves never buy anyway.
Create a really long URL for the download, that even an cracker might have issues with... Maybe, a membership script? ~ Mike
