Publish article on own web site first or in articles directory first?

Should I publish an article on my own web site before submitting it to an articles directory?
Also, I have this idea of publishing my articles in a folder on my web site before submitting them to articles directories, and maybe calling the folder `original articles' or something similar. The idea is, this will help confirm that they were published on my web site first. Does anyone have any views about this idea?
Finally, one articles directory states that you can only have one description in your resource box. If you publish ten articles each article will have the same description in the resource box. In other words, the ten articles will have exactly the same `anchor text' in the resource box.
This seems to conflict with linking, where it's better if each link has slightly different anchor text.
The only solution seems to be to publish one article per articles directory, using a slightly different anchor text in the resource box for each directory.
    Any views about this?

You should not submit the same stuff to other sites that you have on your own site. Keep the best version on your own site and submit a summary or something to article directories.

Kh7 that is a very good suggestion. Also don't put the entire content on article sites. Make sure that the content makes the reader visit your site.

Thanks for helping, am now in the process of publishing article on own site first.
By the way, I'm thinking about including the following in the article:
`This article may be published in an articles directory site and on other web sites in future but it was originally published on this web site on the 15th. April 2007'.

Never try this idea at all. Run away from it. Remember your website remains the main office – your bread and butter. So you must never compromise it for any reason.

Submit the best of the best articles on your website while not submitting less quality to directories. But do not submit duplicate contents.

It depends on what you are doing with your articles. If you wish to get good SEO and traffic to them, I would suggest you not spread the article around. Otherwise Google might see that it is a common article, and might not give you the placement you deserve.

A few people have advised you not to submit your content to article directories or to first alter it. I'd say the choice depends on a few things.

Where does this website fit in your entire portfolio of sites? Is it your bread-and-butter or just another site in your arsenal? For the former, I'd say don't submit the content to article directories because you'd want to keep the unique.

What are you hoping to accomplish through the website? Will submitting to article directories keep you from reaching your goals with the site?

How much non directory-submitted content do you already have on the website? You should mix up the content. This is entirely my opinion, but keep the ratio of directory-submitted content to unique content low. That way your website will continue to offer content that readers can't get anywhere else.

On what level of the site's hierarchy would you be placing these articles? 3rd and 4th levels are better than 1st level. Since the biggest issue with submitting your content to an article directory is duplicate content, tuck the duplicates deep down into the website. The content will still be there, but it won't be the first thing your users read.

kh7 is completely right about it. I also think that if you go for the idea to publish articles in directories you should first make sure that they reside on your site and second that they have some new piece of info in them on the second resource. That way it won't be considered as advertising or selling kind of technique but more like a informative or newsworthy kind of resource.

u can try directories first to see how the article is accepted and read by others this will give you a hint whether the material you've written is of good quality or not. If it turns out that many people like it then go ahead and publish it on your site.

The article you write should be unique to either your site or the directory. Try not to duplicate your content.
