I'm running short on maketing ideas for my site. I have been getting most of my traffic through search engines but it has a limiting effect.

What can I do to make the site stand out more to the websurfer?

you can submit your link to web directories. Most of them offer the free service, otherwise with reciprocal link, or you can buy a featured link :)

I took a look at your site and viewed a few sections. No service providers!!!
I have seen many similar websites and i dont see anything different in your website...

My suggestion is first do the easier part of including service providers... this could be done using some freelancers...

Perhaps it is just me, but in the American market the term "service tender" really doesn't mean anything. If you are trying to solicit business outside the U.K., then I would suggest that you come up with a better description of what it is exactly that you are selling. It took me way too long to figure it out (I would have left the site normally).

Along with the articles suggestion, you might also try a press release for your site. But to get the most out of a press release, versus an article, you should be sure that it is news worthy and not merely an adjetive rich promotion; write it in an objective voice that discusses news of your site and services, not a passive advertisement about the site in general.

I would look to see if I could get an ad in the yellow pages? I'm sure you'll get alot of tradesmen looking through that along with consumers themselves.

Oh, and it's off topic but I'd get rid of the BBC News thing. It doubles up the pages links and it's not really relevant in my opinion.

Whats the American by-word for 'private secotor tendering' or 'obtaining a price quotation for a service' or something similar?

The site is currently not targeted at the American market but its someting I want to explore:)

Why not try some viral marketing?

Give away reports, write articles. Make people tell other people about your site. "Think viral" :)

I have to agree with dbullet007 on this one.

Quite a few online businesses receive most of their traffic by simply offering their expert advice online. One guy even claims that almost 80% of his site visits come from old articles that are still being published by content sites.

Viral marketing is powerful stuff, if done properly. Give something unique to your visitors and they'll be more than happy to recommend your site.

The typical bywords for obtaining a price quote on something in the states would probably be "get a quote"
The proper term in business is an "RFQ" or "Request For Quote"

However, these are of course very broad terms.
