PTR Records and E-Mailing?

I'm just curious our host has a PTR record setup, but it returns to their host name and not our host name. I was told that a lot of free e-mail providers out there look for PTR records (due to spam). Is this PTR record setup correctly or does it need to point to our domain name upon running a RDNS check?

The most important thing is that a PTR record exists.

Just because it doesn't have your domain name in the PTR record doesn't matter because most email servers are shared by a number of domains and you couldn't add a PTR record for all domains because the PTR record is a unique record associated with a unique IP address.

The email server does have the necessary IP set-up correct, so don't worry about it.

I think that would be possible to test this stuff on your end as well. But for this stuff you will need to have your own VPS or small dedicated sevrer.
