For those of you like I who were left a bit depressed by the 'big' announcement from Sony today of a couple of price-cuts, perhaps this leak may be of some relief. Apparently the PS4 is coming mid-2010...
Defantly later, the ps3 has not even reached its full potential. You will see some amazing things to come with the ps3. I say about 2012/3+
Cant happen, no way, refuse to believe it, the only way they could build a faster, more powerfull playstation in such a short time is to stop the time itself.
2010? That is way too early. I think 2012 or 2013 is the perfect time for them to come out with the new console. - Dynashox -
Sony would never relsease one so soon because they no it will seriously P**S all their console owners off . The ps3 is only using half of its potential power
The PS3 has been a major flop and is losing / lost a lot of money. It was up in the 100 million last time I checked. It was/is a great conceptual idea and introduced new technology to the market, however this is what caused it to fail. Had Blu-ray not been the new HD standard, they would've been in great deficit regarding this project.
Maybe they should allow pirated games or atleast sell games cheaper that way thier consoles would do better like PS2
It's not the PS4 - Sony can't afford to release one at the moment. If they really were going to be releasing a new console, they'd be helping the developers use the system better like they had with PS2. There's still a lot of optimization that can be done with PS3 games to make them use the hardware for better graphics. Sony prefers to keep that stuff secret so their consoles have a longer shelf-life & games improve over time.
They already allow region free games. Believe it or not, but even pirating games for the PS3 is expensive... so no that wouldn't work either. They can't sell cheaper games due to initial development costs. They have been stubborn about this (in my opinion) particularly without dropping the price of the console, not even for Christmas / sale seasons. So how are people going to adopt the technology? The PS3 wasn't just a gaming console. It's a no win situation for them and thus the consumer.
Developer resources (tools, manuals, optimization tips, etc). Microsoft on the other hand is pretty much the opposite. That's the reason why most people who do PS games have to license super expensive engines - all the developers have to find out that stuff on their own.
Negative. The console has a more advanced architecture being based on cell processing. It was a step into the future that didn't work out for them, but it did bring a lot to the table for new technology. Microsoft can implement direct X gaming which means, PC gamers can simply take advantage of existing engines, where as on the PS3 it requires a completely new design. PS2 games were lift with no upgrade / portability to the next gen, where as the XBox provided this. Not to mention the low sales (therefore ownership and people using) of the console. Thus, the reason why there are less games and support for the PS3. If you consider Nintendo, their niche isn't the latest graphic inspiring games, they concentrate simply on simplicity and enjoyability, and it works. So no, it is not because Sony didn't support them. It is because they don't have the sales, can't produce the sales even if they bring out the "best" games and it is simply a new technology brought to the consumer which aren't ready for it. Sales / compatibility reflects this.
I didn't think you could pirate PS3 games, though it is quite common for PS2 games in many parts of the world.
