PS? oh, play station...... never mind. I haven't gotten into the video game thing. They sure do look amazing as far as the graphics go.

They are moving up the target date because of the Xbox 2. Traditionally consoles have had a 5 year life cycle, but Xbox 2 is coming out around next summer (it's definitely going to beat the PS3) so life cycles of consoles are being shortened by Microsoft. PS3 will probably follow about 3-5 months after the Xbox 2. So at the very LEAST a year. I would imagine Sony would want it out for Christmas next year, but I wouldn't hold my breath on it.

I thought sony was trying to get PS3 out before xbox2? By about a month or so at least? with the EA games on xbox live now; it'd be hard to imagine that PS3 will be xbox2 in sales as much as ps2 does xbox.

is PS3 gonna have an online service like xbox live, or still open like PS2 now?

oh wait .. isn't the PS3 gonna be a lot more like a media center? DVD, MPEG, networked to PC, etc.?

Funny to see Microsoft getting things out early. Different department than Longhorn. ;)

It will be. They are moving to a PowerPC architecture (essentially a G5, the same thing Macs use now). They are fast enough to emulate the x86 architecture of existing Xbox without any problems.

If they can do that, why can't we emulate PCs better?

Well one reason is VirtualPC is now owned by Microsoft. You don't really think they would let Macs run Windows faster than a PC, now do you? :)

We should see some interesting things in that arena though in about 6-9 months (not from Microsoft/Virtual PC).

Already have demoed Quake 3 for x86 Linux running fine on a Mac (with full hardware acceleration no less).

hey does anyone know how much RAM is included onboard the xbox? It's essentially a computer, so I always wondered....

hehe. I think all of our types are guilty of wanting to control things. When I'm not playing something mindless (like Halo) you'll often find me on Simcity 4, Starcraft, or Rome: Total War.
