I have alot of mixed feeling son proxys, I can see there benefits.. But the problem is the majority of people who use proxys use them for the wrong reasons, EG: Banned from a forum and need to get back in, Exploiting a website or useing cracked passwords to access member sections. But i want to here your opinion, If youd like to here a bit more of mine then check out my blog. http://blogurself.com/blog/technology/keeping-anonymous-online/
Yes of course they're up to no good Even for schools -> trying to log on Myspace while kids are suppose to be doing their school work!!
yeah, I did that but thats not as bad as someone useing a proxy to take down a website and cover his tracks, or use it to come back onto a trading forum after being banned for scamming and doing it all over again.
I think that proxies have just opened the door to spammers and scammers. But at the same time they provide a valuable service to those who dont have the freedom to browse as they please online. So i guess i have some mixed emotions.
I completely agree, They have both Negatives & Positives, I think we need to find a way to control what people do on proxys, but then that defeats the purpose of them i guess.
I think it would be nice to make proxies view only. Which would mean you could only look, and not input anything. But then again it defeats the purpose.
The proxies has opened doors for chinese, Iranian and other people that want to be on the net without being sensored. Thats important.
I agree, but there are also alot of issues that have to be sorted out with proxies, especially on ways to control how they are used.
That is one positive thing that proxies have a purpose for.. freedom while surfing. However, it really depends.. we need to weigh the cons and pros before deeming proxies evil
some proxy owners let their users go nuts while others try to help prevent spam. I think the big problem is that people just jump in to make some extra ca$h and dont consider anything else.
Exactly right, I think there needs to be a universal Proxy guidelines enforced by hosts to help stop the malicious use of proxys
I've worked with proxies for a long time and I have to say that although I got a lot of funding, I don't really like the business idea at all. 1. You can easily get banned by Google 2. My proxies get DDOsed every 2 days 3. They require large server resources and bandwidth that I don't think is necessary.
But you must also remember due to the huge resource consumption alot of the problematic ones are hosted on dedicated servers.
Yes, but even dedicated servers have restrictions whether there hosted by Hosting Companys or through ISPS, There is a way for them to enforce guidelins.
Well, there is no practical way to control proxies alone. That would be the same a controlling the users.
True, But hosts have been cracking down on Warez based sites, Why cant they do the same with proxys? If people now that a certain "niche" is being cracked down on they will be less likely to create a site based on it. So therefore it would be a start to stopping the issue of people useing proxies for malicious use.
Exactly. With all the problems listed in my previous post, they are worse then warez boards. I even got a lot of complaints of hackers, hacking using my proxy.
Correct, and thats why we have to find a way to do something about it instead of watching the situation get worse. Any suggestions :S?
Hosts are not cracking down on proxies because proxies are legal. Warez is illegal. And to make proxies illegal is not an issue, its not practical possible, think about all the ISP`s that use proxies to speed up and so on.
