Proxy Sites

Is it just me, or are proxy sites the latest crazy sweeping this Adsense forum? Every 2nd post seems to be about how people made $x with a proxy site or questioning whether or not they've been banned because they run a proxy site..

Surely a proxy site is such a grey area - they really are content-less pages aren't they..? :)

Who uses them anyway (for good, not evil)? :)

I sense things will tighten up on proxies just like the recent "images next to ads" fairly soon...

    Ontheweb,

One could place as much content as he/she
wishes on a proxy, but why? The once looking
for a proxy site usually do not need info, but
    the use of it.
After all it is an users tool type of a site.
With a little explanation where this proxy, or
that proxy is good for - all runs just fine.

Google loves tool sites because they know
that users love them, so the traffic to these
type of sites is plenty. And after what happened
to mine I am absolutely sure that Google has
nothing against proxies that are playing the game
by the rules - adsense only on the index page
and not on the proxified pages, and further all
    according to their TOS.

The most users of proxy sites are teens at school
and people who are checking their web-mail accounts,
or are visiting Digg, Myspace etc. These type of URL's
are usually blocked within the network of the schools,
and jobs, so most users do recommend fast running
proxy sites to their friends, co-workers, school mates etc.

Than there are some people that are using proxies
to visit porn sites, or from home and they do not want
to leave a trace due to children using the same computer,
or the wife will get angry. Or because these people live
in countries in which such sites are forbidden by law.

So, I definitely hope that things are not going to tighten
more for proxies than they already are. After all, to have
a good running proxy - one usually needs at least a VPS
or better yet a dedicated server. These do cost quite a
few $$$ while the proxies are there for the free use.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with us trying to earn
the hosting costs and some extra for providing the service
online to all who need it.

This is obviously my own point of view and am quite curious
to see how other owners of proxies see things here.

fortgo, a very good post. I run a proxy and one of the top sites visited is myspace, so it isn't using proxy sites for evil

    Thanks Soniqhost,

What I described above is what I see
in my ref stats, and wonder too what
the rest of proxy webmasters think, or
    have to add

    Nice post fortgo :)

I'd just be VERY careful putting too much work into a proxy site. To me there's absolutely no legitimate use for them (even teens at school really shouldn't be using them - there's a reason why network admins block certain access)..

But more importantly for people who run proxy sites, the conversion rate on them must be absolutely terrible (not the CTR, the conversions for the end advertiser)..?? First of all I don't see how the ads can target anything, so straight away the CTR will be lower than other sites. Second of all, if your visitors are using your proxy to get to myspace (another traditionally low conversion portal), then good luck... :)

What about your rights to information? Countries like China and Iran restrict their citizens' Internet access to control what they read.

Not if the advertisers are hawking more proxies or Internet privacy software. A proxy tends to get blocked once the office or school finds out about it. So my users are always interested to know about other alternative proxies.

CTR is pretty awesome in proxy sites if your placement is good!

    Just a question.....

What's the best proxy to use for us to access secure server at school? They blocked most of the public sites such as myspace, friendster, etc.
A friend suggested these secure-connection enabled sites listed below:

    https://www.projectbypass.com/

    https://www.sneakysurf.com/

    https://www.proxyninja.com/

    https://www.projectbypass.com/

    https://www.vtunnel.com/

    https://www.shysurfer.com/

Please tell us if these sites are working. Any feedback will be highly appreciated. If you know other proxy or sites, please share it with us. Thanks.

With the number of proxy sites growing daily, it is very hard to make money unless you spent time and money.

Proxy Sites are definately the rage, but if people are making money off them there really isn't a way to stop it.
