Proxies are a niche I wouldn't go near, but from someone I know who is in it the best way to monetize is with a paid service. Upsell a paid service where you offer better proxies and updated lists and charge a monthly fee. Proxies are tough to really profit from. The income is so low for the amount of reosurces a proxy site uses that it's ridiculous. Most people need to run like 20 sites before they see decent income per day. At that rate you could be managing one or two quality websites that don't use up 1/1000th of the resources and make just as much.
I wouldnt waste time with proxy sites. It seems that every webmaster gets on the proxy bandwagon. I dont understand why? they are just waste of time to me.
I agree the amount of resources required to run the site versus what you get paid doesn't make it worth it, part of the problem is the traffic that visits proxy doesn't convert well for advertisers.
If you are making profit from a proxy site then i think it is really a good thing. As you said 2 $ per day then it must be 60 $ per month which is a little good. I am not even making this much with my proxy.
I wouldn't call proxies a niche any more. While I have personally found out first hand almost a year ago that proxies are no longer profitable, people still host them in large quantities with us.
Proxies ARE NOT for you who are looking for a fast way to get easy money. This niche still the same with other niche which require you to do some work to keep it alive. If you are looking to get quick bucks out of proxies just simply because you heard many webmasters earn a lot from them, I think you are not up to it. You need a dedicated server, time to spent as well as hardworking since it involves some promotion work. Don't just rely on Adsense, there is plenty of ads program that you can use and earned from them. If you want your income from proxy to be like $10 per day, be prepare to learn from others, join proxy forum, keep on asking what you didn't know.

I used to run a proxy for 2 months, and out of the 2 months it was up I earned $5 from Google ads. No one pays attention to what's around the proxy, they pay attention to the URL form.
