its a good business, I am in it. There are alot of places to advertise for free. Theres topsites/lists, yahoo groups, google groups, news letters, and several more. easy to drive alot of traffic, just make sure its not bad traffic like china or iran, you get low pay for clicks from those countries.
Yes it is a good business, however the perception that you just "set em up and leave while the cash rolls in" is false, like everything nothing is for free and for a successful proxy, hard work needs to be put in.
I agree with Tommy, many people think it is easy cash proxy sites however if you are new to the business and do not know where to spend the time you have marketing the proxy site you wont get anywhere fast. The best thing to do is read up a lot first figure out which market strategies are good and which are a waste of time, for example topsites waste of time, yahoo answers is a good marketing method however rather time consuming. You will make typically between $1-$5 per proxy site at the minimum anywhere up to $20 per site a day. Will.

well you need a good template, I noticed I changed to a new template and my earnings changed drastically. On my old template, I was getting maybe .10 a day, and so far today I have earned $4.57 and the day isn't half over. I suggest a unique template, well unique to the proxy business. And when you have several people using the same template, some of them will give it a bad reputation because they spam their site with ads. When an average user experiences, they might associate your site with the spammy site. because the CTR (amount of clicks) is high I took the ad placement and made the placement very similar on my site (see sig) The template I am using is from http://www.freecsstemplates.org/ and I integrated it to work with glype, this took me about 30 mins to set up and I have increased my earnings from .10 to $4.50 every day the next the is the quality of traffic, you can boost your traffic by posting on Iranian or Chinese places, this isn't what you want though, with my expirience, when those countries click on an ad, I get about 1 cent, how ever if someone from the U.S. or GB clicks on an ad I get .20 - $2 per click hope that helps
Not always the case..I set up my first proxies in no time at all and advertised only for the first couple weeks..now I have steady traffic and get a couple of bucks a day with no effort at all. It really isn't hard to make money of proxies.
well most will say PHProxy, however I prefer glype, I like its youtube compatibility, and myspace plugins.
Proxies are hot right now. But remember, there's also allot of competition. You're going to need to work hard at it and move ahead of the competition. If you can do that, the sky is the limit. I don't see it being impossible to make $20-$30/day off a couple proxy site's.

Well, proxies are great , but not a good summer thing. School is out, so you're really losing a big chunk of traffic.
