Proxy security configuration

I have been having an issue with PHProxy and CGIProxy. My upstream provider had been receiving complaints about spam emails sent from my dedicated server. My host contacted me, and the techs worked out that people had been using the proxy on the server to log into email accounts and send out spam messages. My question is how can I configure them so people cannot use mail systems like Hotmail etc. I can always ban the sites...but there are so many. I still want people to be able to login to sites like MySpace, Facebook etc...how do other proxy sites do it without any issues?

    Thanks.

    Seb

Just put up a TOS/discliamer on your proxy.

putting TOS won't resolve such issue, the nature of open proxy allow users to use email , they could easily send email and spam over the internet .

The best you can do is create a private login for your proxy service and warn user not to abuse it. but most host now won't allow proxy running because it might get their ip banned forever.

Well, most proxies save their backs by putting up a disclaimer : eg - CloakTool TOS

You could also put free email provider domains to the host blacklist of your proxy scripts support the feature.

TOS wont help you stopping spam but it helps preventing any disputes with the host since you arent allowing illegal activities from your server.
