Looks like a dumb question... but does anyone have idea what is it?

How can your proxy be abused with it?

Simple.. if someone hotlinks images via your proxy, your server's bandwidth is used up

User: A porn forum in China
    Victim: You and your proxy
Website: A porn streaming site in...say...taiwan.

Now if I ran a porn forum and hosted smut flicks on my own dime I would still make money. But if I linked them THROUGH your proxy going TO that taiwan prn streaming site that may have its servers in the US then I would cut my hosting costs by about 90%.

Oh and I wouldn't thank you openly for obvious reasons.

    Hi,

Was wondering how can you see your proxy is being abused like this?

Sometimes I see an IP with over 100 connections.

    Thanks,

just curious to know, how can this be avoided ? I can see on cPanel, there is a option of Stop Hotlinking(or something like that) so will this be enough ?

I would suggest not using cpanel and preventing the hotlinking directly yourself so you know exactly how it's working, what it's preventing, and what it's allowing.

By not allowing any referrer other than your own IP/domain (yourproxy.com) to be able to use your proxy.

Problem is that is only for phpproxy.

ANyone know how I can ban countries? I think people in other countries are looking at porn or something else, and they are literally killing my server!!!!

I have had to restart my vps numerous times, I just wanted people to go to myspace!

I banned IP blocks using the iptables firewall that comes with linux. But I thin you can also block countries through apache...

    Through the referrer in logs--hotlinking.
