I have a network of 13 proxies running on a semi-dedicated hosting plan that allows high CPU usage. Server specs straight from the owner: "I've had to suspend your account temporarily. The proxies are taking 100% of available memory and over 70% of CPU usage. I don't think bandwidth is an issue, because it shows your account has only used 400MB of bandwidth, however, the CPU usage has gone through the roof." "I had you on a server that has a Dual Xeon 2.13 Ghz processors, 1GB of RAM, and had a load of 0.05 which is next to nothing. Your proxies were taking the load up to 32.87 and it should never get over 2.00 load." Before the account got suspended, AW stats was just showing about 1500 uniques a day and adsense was showing 7-10K impressions daily. Now my cPanel was showing about 30 gigs of bandwidth used over the last three days. I was running Zelune proxy script, and I'm wondering if I should upgrade to a dedicated, or if there is another script that uses less resources. The CPU usage just doesn't seem right for the amount of traffic. Should I run a different script, upgrade to a dedicated server, or what? I was thinking about upgrading to a dedicated, but only making $20-25 a day doesn't seem like enough to want to get into a dedicated Any help/comments/suggestions are appreciated
Dedicated seems to be the way for most proxy administrators. Usually people start small with a couple of proxies on a shared plan with a specialized proxy host and then expand according to their needs. With so many uniques and impressions you should really be getting a dedicated with at least 2GB RAM. If you are earning $600 a month then you can easily afford a nice dedicated for $110-$160 (depending on your bandwidth usage of course).
Grab your self a dedi with a decent processor (dual core atleast) and put 2gb+ ram into it, read around and config the server for proxies only. Close down waste services like mail, mysql etc.
Have you got any limits on the file sizes E.g Images, also if people are using your proxy for YouTube than this can also be your problem on bandwidth.
The server you are on is not that powerful. Either switch to a host that has more powerful servers or get a dedi. You'll need some powerful server though, get 2GB RAM and at least two processors. Intekhosting has pretty powerful servers if you don't want to go dedi.
