Just wanted the ODP to know of the following error I experience when trying to contact editors: Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/send2.cgi. Reason: Error reading from remote server Thank you ODP
We are experiencing some problems, because of work being done and this could be one of them. But if I might just answer some of the other issues. Please read the sticky at the top. You ask what you have to do to get your site listed. You have to wait, it can take from a few days to a few years for a site to get a review for a possible listing. We are not a listing service for web site owners, you have suggested your site. Thank you. But it will wait until an editor chooses to work in that area and chooses to use the suggestions pool. Editors are there to build categories for end users and for that they use many resources, the suggestions pool is one possible source. As editors it is also at our discretion if we answer people who contact us, but actually we are discouraged from doing so. We do not do site reviews to tell people what has happened to their suggestion, we do not advise if a site is used or not and until an editor reviews a site it simply waits in the suggestions pool. My understanding, because this is not an area I work in, is that we always do reply to editor applications and within a reasonable period. We do have a way of checking where editor applications have gotten to, if it feels like an inordinate delay here http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11
Unfortunately DMOZ use CGI script for submitting or contact them, scripts that don't work properly since a while back so it's more about your luck trying over and over to suceed.
That's not correct. Despite the error message from the servers when trying to contact an editor, messages do usually get through. There's no need to send twentyleven duplicates and they won't be welcomed. Editors evaluate the actual websites as and when they wish, so there's no need to impart extra information. There's no need to ask questions either because our policy is to discourage editors from responding. Once they've replied a few times, they soon realise the wisdom of that policy. Editors are volunteers and putting up with hassle, threats and (in at least 2 cases) stalking isn't part of their mission. Listing suggestions are currently working. There's still a problem during the application to become an editor process in that the email confirmation message sometimes bounces. In this situation try again at intervals until you get a more sensible response. (In this context, 'can't find confirmation ticket' is a good response.)
