Proxy effect on server?

I'm just curious, does a proxy use more resources than any other site?

I've been debating whether or not to host proxies on my server!

A proxy site will use a lot of bandwidth, and cause a load on the server. That's why a lot of hosts don't allow it.

A proxy basically downloads a whole site onto your server & simultaneously uploads it to the user's computer. Thus, it takes up more RAM/CPU than normal websites , which are just uploaded to the user's PC & not downloaded from elsewhere.

We at LaceHost keep separate servers from Proxy websites with higher RAM.

I wouldn't recommend it. They tend to use more CPU as they receive large amounts of traffic very quickly at once, but at times like Weekends, they tend to go away (off-peak). Remember they proxy everything (Most Javascript, CSS, Images, etc.), so it's not just single page, and it must match all the page data and point it to itself, hence even greater CPU use. Small proxies cause little harm.

I figured that it did, I just was unsure about letting any clients have proxy's.
