I don't think the proxy business is screwed. I actually think it is getting alot bigger, you just have to work harder.
Not to forget the annoying embed-proxies site. On my listing site, I delete any subdomains, free domains and site without a backlinks.
Well you can leave it.. but I won't leave it when proxyz.ws grows.. as I don't want to promote stupid proxies which don't leave a backlink to me + subdomains usually die faster than 'normal' proxies so that's why I dont' accept them... Also there are some persons who are trying to submit links from adultfriendfinder to the list... they maybe want to get referrals from proxy users or something... how stupid can you be Greetz
Some proxies are useless, I hate many proxies that : Have a pop up after every search. Have the search bar below all the ad's and junk - makes it impossible to find and kind of kills the concept. Slow and banned proxies. To me a proxy is mostly used by bots any way, that's all I use them for .... But yeah my pet hate is the proxies that have the search bar right under everything or totally hidden within the content, why have a proxy if no one can find it ?
Proxies are still gold mine but not for all of us.Earlier it was easy to venture in and make cash out of it.But now its a lot tougher. Besides Proxy market is soo big that the present number of proxies are not enough. Believe me!!
How else do you think proxy owners make money ? Money doesn't fall from skies and proxies eat bandwidth for dinner
Well don't run a proxy .... simple, just have a page with ad's, actually just take that search bar off the page .... as it's useless if no one can find it .... Go ahead and use pop ups - but it's your sites funeral, one per hour is fine, but 2,3 & 4 pop ups per page view .... is too much and you will scare away your visitors. Some people get to greedy and it's about the dollars and to them it's not about providing a service (which is what a proxy is) ....
The search bar is always on the bottom of the page. Every proxy visitor knows that and it's easy to find. Ofcourse you have some proxy owners who think they are funny and put a google search bar on top... that will just kick your visitors away believe me. Also, I don't have any popups so I need to make my money with adsense on the first page
Only the best survive, no matter if it's a proxy expert or a newbie. We all have the same right to do as we wish with a domain, hosting and a script as long as it's legal. Weren't you a newbie when you got started on this proxy business? I admit there's way too many proxies created everyday, but only a few thousands survive. As long as your proxy is not being blocked, it has a good design, interactive ideas, good promotion strategy ideas, a good host and using the top proxy tricks out there, these are the proxy sites that will stay around for a while and make it to the top. The main problem is that most proxy owners invest a lot of time, money when getting started, then after a few weeks/months/years making money out of this proxies, they just expect to sit down, relax and make money. They forget about keeping up the promotion strategies, new design once in a while and here comes the newbies taking over. Just my opinion,
I remember early 2004 when you could put adsense legally on proxified pages and earn $3000+/month. If you want good proxy traffic, advertise at proxy.org .
This is very true, even for other sites, like Myspace,. then came Facebook with its cool ajax features etc. The myspace what they do? The have been updating there website to compete. Competition always leaves a better product, without it if you just sit by. You will be left in the dust. Well you know what the they say out with the old in the with new.
I used to do this proxy business too making a small profit, i wanted to start again was thinking of starting on a small vps for 1 proxy site
Yeh i agree, too many ppl creating useless ones on sub domains spamming the good directories tech-fag used to send me so much traffic, now 3 times less.
Its unfortunate really that people who learned a bit doing proxies jumped into the bandwagon instantly before even knowing that they are killing the business. Hosting hundreds of proxies doesn't mean tons of income as well. People and search engines are getting tired of whats happening. If does not stop sooner, the business is dead.. SADLY...
I'm new to the proxy game, so I guess that makes me a "noob." There is a lot of competition in the proxy business and yes there are tons of "crap" proxy sites that all use the same no money-making templates. I may not understand proxies to the level of many of my competitors, but I do have a solid understanding of business and application of technology. For me, I do this because I want to bring a reliable and quality product to the market. I also want to try and bring some inovation to the proxy business. Lets face it the old way of making money in the proxy business is nearly obsolete for the reasons many of you mentioned. My humble advice to noobs and vets alike would be not to operate on the ideas of 2004, because you just won't survive. I personally have built on what I have learned from the few 14 page e-books on the proxy business I've read. Starting with having a solid plan, the right resources and a workable goal. One more thing, success on the internet is measured in traffic, because in most cases traffic = a higher number of conversions. We have the traffic collectively, and that's what our internet marketing peers stay up nights trying to figure out how they can get it. My point is there are more ways to monetize the proxy than pennies a day from adsense clicks and adbrite. Thanks just my two pennies. JFSmoot
In proxies, you need "targeted traffic". You won't earn much or at all from China, Iran and a few other countries. make sure you do not make your proxy like a MFA and host it on a good server.
