Okay, first off, I need too state this question is ultra "Noob" of me to ask but I've recently come upon a reason to give a damn about proxies... Not anything blackhat but for various reasons I need to differentiate traffic to a few different sites, some under my administration, some that are not. What I'm looking for is a reliable and SAFE proxy or other alternative that comes with the same level of security/assurances that you get from an ISP. (A.k.a. a reputable company that is unlikely to be caching/scraping the traffic that crosses the proxy...) Are there any paid proxy services of this sort? I honestly have an incredibly hard time trusting any proxy service that is free or "fly by night" or whose sole purpose is to provide access to facebook to bored school kids... Alternatively, would hosting my own proxy or even a mini-network of proxies be a better alternative? I am less fond of this option because I don't really want any extra administrative headache but a reasonable level of safety and privacy is quite important to me so, if it's the only way that is an option... (also, are there alternatives? AKA virtual boxes that aren't part of some underground botnet... I'm not worried about being able to "Get away" with anything like spam or DDOS or anything that would violate an ISP's TOS... But I've so far been unable to find anything that targets legitimate needs for differentiation of traffic from my ISP's IP range... Any help is greatly appreciated... **** Mindless chatter beyond tis point *** **** If uninterested in mindless chatter, please disregard anything past this point... if you're as bored as I was when I wrote the following, I think it's rather amusing as I'm rather sleep deprived right now and felt like going on a little bit of a tangent... *** BTW, I'm well versed in the concept of proxy servers, but I never cared about seeking out a reliable proxy before because A) I am not a desperate teen in need of facebook or pron B) I rarely engage in anything blackhat, not because of morals per say but because I have a tendancy towards being anxious about anything I could be "busted" for and I gravitate towards avoidance of unnecessary risk... not to mention I'm overly worried about Karma despite being baptised Lutheran and having only vague delusions of Bhudist/Hindu intuition and C) I've never cared to get into the proxy biz myself because I don't care to assist high school in their ADHD-induced distractions... again, not because of morals or judgement... I personally would have been totally SCREWED had I been born in the age of web-connected classrooms, hell, 'Net Send' and various other 'Net *' commands got me in enough trouble in classes involving PC's.. "hmmm... lets see here... Teacher left the room... 'Net Send PC104 Tina, please come see me in the principle's office! ~Mrs. Johnson' or 'Net Send PC113 We'd like to advise on the last 4 stops of Bus L that there has been a change in bus routes... Starting today, you are to take bus P... Your stops will still be at the end of the route..." (That one was my favorite! My neighbor's mom(s) were PISSED! Word spread apparently! LOL!)
