I had the idea to create a site where people could post a URL to a Rapidshare file that was a music CD. It wouldn't be directly linked, the post would only contain the URL in plain text format. None of the files would be hosted on my server. I can understand why it might be illegal, because I'm providing the site, but I wanted to run it by you guys too. Can I be held responsible for this? Would there be any kind of disclaimer/notice that I could use to pass off the responsibility?
It depends on where you live and where your site is hosted, but you could be held liable for contributory infringement even though the files are not hosted on your site and you don't provide a live link (and I don't think that matters anyway).
