Hello, How do you guys protect yourselves from someone overclicking the AdSense ads? I keep an eye on the stats and, if the CTR goes up dramatically, I suspend the ads and send an e-mail to Google. But let's face it - no one is 24/7 around a computer. Especially during the holidays. So if someone is really our to hurt you, he can just wait for a proper moment to try it. Is there any other way to stay on the safe side and not receive a ban letter from Google after a long awaited 7 day holiday?
If someone clicks some 100 times on the ads in the same day, trust me, you won't be doing good in Google's eyes.
Hence, why numerous bloggers and webmasters complain daily about how Google Adsense is often way to strict and unrelenting in their march against "invalid clicks".
Surely common sense would prevail. I'm also sure that Google are aware of malious clicks and would investigate if this were to happen.
Just continue with what you are doing and if you are not doing anything against the TOS then you shouldn't have nothing to be concerned over. If it would happen that you get an email stating that invalid clicks where detected then you should contact G and tell them you have done nothing wrong and you where wrongfully banned. If you have truly done nothing against the TOS then you would be reinstated just as others have before. Also try to have some sort of analytics program installed such as Asrep i believe that you can use to view the ip's that clicked on the ads, so you have some proof about the ip's that have been clicking your ads and are the cause of the invalid clicks. There is nothing much you can do i think.
One solution would be to get one of those adsense analyzer type scripts which will enable you to obtain the IP address of where alot of the clicks are originating from, then it'd be just a matter of not allowing that particular IP address to access your site.
This could be very interesting (any free ones around?) as long as they can (or could be programmed to) react to malicious behaviour. As I said, you can react yourself to sudden changes, but what could you do when you're away for the holiday? And unfortunately a wi-fi laptop is not a solution - we've got just a few dozen hotspots in the entire country.
If you are really really afraid that someone is going to click on your ads and you really really think G is going to ban you for that, but still you really really want to go on a vacation, then I think you should really really remove the adsense code from your site during your vacation. But if you (really really!) are an honest guy/girl then G won't hurt you. Right?
I guess that's one solution. Whoever said you can have fun and money at the same time? I'm not worried about my sites, they're all following strictly the TOS. I was just wondering what would happen if someone did nasties while being away.
Despite what you may think, IMO Google really doesn't care if you are responsible for invalid clicks or not. A few weeks ago, my friend was suspended from Adsense because someone used a proxy to click on his ads, and they don't seem to care that it was something he had not control over nor endorsed. I would never place any faith in Google Adsense as a stream of income.
mr. deleted ... TOUCHE you`ve said everything that matters. Nor google, nor YPN or others are secure sources of income. I have a friend that received 2 important gifts from Santa Claus : Google account disabled (lousy excuse) and Yahoo disabled (and a recalculation of revenue of about $5000). So , bottom line : PPC is not a secure source of income and if you get banned on google or yahoo or others don`t be sad ... there are always alternatives.
Or like has been mentioned in the past, they should restrict how often an I.P. will tabulate as a hit when clicked from. Count 1 click from an I.P. per 6 hour stretch maybe, just incase there is someone genuine that might have the inclination to click on 2 - 3 in a 24 hour span... I don't know though, just off the top of my head...
don't worry about such things where you aren't involved personally. take the following two steps 1.Ban clicking person's IP (get with analysing program) 2.Send a email to support stating the same.i hope its enough. but note, they will keep keen observation on such accounts.
I don't think you can do anything about it. Leave it alone, focus on content and promotion. With more income and longer history, Google may give you a tiny more care.
well if you suddenly get very, very much clicks than average and if you're scared to get banned, send a mail or something. they have your ip, so they know it probably wasn't you, and then there's that returning visitor thing..
Couldn't one just figure out some kind of script which determines if a person clicked on an Adsense ad and just place a cookie or something on that person's computer; next time the person is loading a page within, say, a 2 hour frame, just don't display the Adsense ad anymore. I suppose this script would be fairly easy to do with Javascript (I'm no expert, however).
