Protection against PR-Cheaters

I am thinking about joining the Co-op network but first would like to make sure that there is protection against sites that make a fake high toolbar PR and have.

By fake PR I mean they (301 or 302) redirect GoogleBot to a domain with high PR but for normal users display their regular page. So Google will show the PR of the site they redirect to and same goes for the DigitalPoint PR Script / Tool - it shows the fake PR...

Example of such a Co-op partner - see:

    http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:http://www.emuvortex.net/

(Google cash shows that they are redirecting Googlebot to PR8 site http://caminobrowser.org)

Does this add weight to ther account?

Nah, don't worry, we all police the sites in the network, when something like this pops up we all take a look and decide what to do about it.

I had thought that you couldn't use a redirected site. At least that seems to be a common answer when people ask why it is not working.

So do you manualy check sites after they have been approved?
And what about this http://www.emuvortex.net/ - I noticed the PR jump from PR2 to PR8 thanks to DP Back Links Tracker so I am sure DP is getting the same wrong PR readings in the system...

Only the GoogleBot is redirected (to mess up the Toolbar PR readings) so technicly this is not a redirect site? or is it?

Hi, I am sure Shawn will put your mind to rest, it seems to be a very well designed piece of coding (The Co-op)

They are not redirecting. They WERE redirecting and with the recent update got their fake PR.

    Nice find!

    Normal redirects won't validate.

Sneaky ones like these where it only affects GoogleBot I'm not so sure of. Shawn will have the answer. If it's found to be cheating I'm sure this will be enforced:

I have been visiting that site regularly (ok ok - i like illegal roms a lot :) ) -- an I have never seen them redirecting USERS to other sites but as you can see GoogleBot has been redirected. Is there a way to fake a googlebot visit and see what we get served? Maybe they redirect GBot IPs.

    ---

Any way they did it the fact is they have fake PR8 - does that add to their Weight?

There's a firefox extension which lets yuu change the user agent so you can browse as any bot.

If the API returns PR8 then yes, they are benefitting fraudulently.

Well - it is showing PR8 in Google Toolbar, FireFox PR-Plugin and most importantly - DigitalPoint Back Link Tracking Tool...

PR8 in most of Google datacenters :

    http://www.seochat.com/?go=1&option=com_seotools&tool=9&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.emuvortex.net

The ones that have not updated show natural PR3

You're correct, their weight will be unfairly bloated. Technically it IS a redirect, just not one that the end user sees.

The only way to police it is to have a trigger set on PRx, then a quick hunt through the top ten results returned on the link: cmd to ensure the presence of BL's to the domain in question.

Basically, what Fryman & JB9 said - and thanks for bringing it up - I figured someone would try it on sooner or later :)

    Cheers,

    JL

They would never validate to begin with because the site: command shows only pages from the domain they are redirecting to. The validator would never be able to find any ads running for them.

But if they are redirecting GoogleBot only? Wouldn't that let them validate (as they aperantly do) and at the same time have the fake PR?

They have other pages listed in google and interlinked - only cash for INDEX shows evidence of a redirect and also http://forum.emuvortex.net/ where Co-op ads do work shows fake PR8 (check Google cash)

    TOPS30

Did you look at Google search for:

    link:http://www.emuvortex.net

    compare to

    link:http://caminobrowser.org

    Both SERPs 1 - 10 of about 2,120
and NONE of them link to Emuvortex as far as i can see...
