I would be more worried about the eCommerce solution that you are using or building, than the WordPress installation. The eCommerce portion should be separate and beware of simple cheap solutions.

With that said, look at Hardening WordPress in the Codex.

I don't know the best practice to keep you safe from hackers but installing wp-db-backup and having routine backups emailed to you based on how much your site gets updated will help. For low content sites, once a day is fine. For regular updating, every 12 hours works for me.

I cannot suggest any, and I won't. It would be irresponsible of me to suggest anything dealing with any type of e-payment plugin when you obviously do not understand the security needed. I suggest that you hire a professional and credentialed developer to do this for you.

go to wordpress.org and look up "security" plugins. Download 2-3 of them and follow the instructions. Also use TAC theme authencity scanner, it will scan your theme for embeded stuff. Then you can google wordpress vulnerability scanner to have that scan your site. GL!

There are some security plugins available for wordpress, you can search for it as hexiumvii suggested. Also, don't forget about security of eCommerce solution for your site..
