Protecting my business name

How would I go about protecting my business name?

I was thinking of trademarking it down here in Aus, but that wouldn't be much of use as the internet is global (duh).

    Any help?

Generally, there's a difference between a tradename and a trademark. While
the link I enclosed below is mainly applicable to the U.S., Australia might have
    something similar:

    http://www.idsos.state.id.us/tmarks/tm_faq.htm

For example, you have a business named Dturn Inc. and you're selling bowling
balls you named Turnbull. Dturn Inc. is your tradename, while Turnbull is your
    trademark.

OTOH, if your business is named Dturnbull and you're selling dturnbull bowling
balls, then dturnbull is your tradename and trademark. See the difference?

Anyway, you best check with an IP attorney in your area familiar with such. I
just gave something to get you started, but a lawyer is really the best person
    to say.
