Prospective directory owners--just wanted to share my experience!

This is not for experienced directory owners or SEO experts.
But for those who are inspired by the success of many paid directories and want to start a directory of their own.

To be a successful webmasters -traffic to the website is the key--that is known to everybody. But traffic from Search Engines are of quality. And to rank high on Google --

You must try to buy a directory domain name that should be as close to as your main targetted keyword or keyphrase.

I am saying this after chanching upon a surprising fact. Due to imminent PR update -frankly I am a bit nervous and while I was checking ranking of my directory I realised that my directory is ranking #10 on Google out of 106,000,000 keyword competition:eek: Check Here

It is because of the similiarity of my domain with the keyword.

Just wanted to share --this --Enjoy.:D

This is not the situation with directory online..

Your targetted keyword in domain is a much old SEO practice for higher SERPs. :)

Due to my location --I don't get G.com even if I want:mad: It always redirect me to my local URL.

But I checked with http://www.searchenginegenie.com ( an authority site) --and found that it ranks #16th Worldwide.

I travel the world and the first thing I do is set G .COM as my browser default if you really expect the best results then use the .COM if you use an obscure small G like .CO.UK expect small results from small countries ie small amount of users

Yes mate I would love to --but if you follow some of my post --I say -I am technically dumb and dumber. I am currently using Firefox -2.0.0.2 --can you please PM me the steps how do I set up the preference to .com from .in? I would love to do it.

But hey --do you think 1.20 billion compares to 150 million?:D

I think it is comparable in a way Per Capita Internet Connectivity--but I guess there are much much more website from .in than .co.uk ( I might be wrong)

Thanks to Pete (britishguy) -- I could setup my browser to G.COM from G.CO.IN

And I checked again --about the ranking and found my directory still ranks #10.--But keyword competition has increased by some 1 million only --So .CO.IN results are very competitive indeed --as close to original .COM.

    Please -- Check HERE

And after some real simple technical hiccups --I can still say that Keyword in you future directory's domain is very very help-ful for good ranking. So when you plan and want to start a directory--keep this thing in mind. Enjoy:D

Besides --found this Wiki article explaining how PR algo works --some might be interested to read--
