shuddup I have no interest reading something that has not even remotely been demonstrated as something liveable in the real world.
Sounds like you are making shit up. Here is another Russian (real this time) telling you that Soviet regime was BAD for Russians (think constant fear and massive bureaucracy to name a few) and thank God that Gorbachev came to put an end to it.
That's just ignorant then. You shouldn't spurn something you don't know about (and then refuse to learn about it). If you don't like communism just because someone told you it's bad, doesn't that sort of make you a "slave" to them?
Shawn - my mom grew up in socialism, I know how it is being perverted and abused. And I've seen too much evidence of human nature never allowing communism to work. I'm sure that there are some great ideas in there that we could benefit from in our society. But overall, I believe that it gives as much opportunity to abusers as religious extremism.
Ok, is that why you live in NY and not in Russia. Anyway, what I said is true. For example an 40 year old russian at my latest work called Ina told me that the government gaved her an apartment for free and that she liked to live their until the perestrojka. Do you really think that Gorbatjov did a good thing when he shrinked your economy by implementing his reforms?
Does this mean we should not study black holes or space travel because "has not even remotely been demonstrated as something liveable in the real world"? Forget about communism, do you know what capitalism is? How can people who praise capitalism, in the same time complain about off-shore out sourcing and ask for protectionist custom duties to protect American Jobs?
I did not say that life in Russia became great after Perestroika but dismantling the old was the right step. It will take many decades to fix the problems and make people's lifes better (and that is given the government really knows what they are doing). Unfortunately, currently there is too much corruption and plain stupidity at the top level there (nothing to do with communism or capitalism). Great. My grandfather (WW2 veteran) was waiting to get his phone line installed since sometime in the 50s when he "applied". Someone from local authorities finally decided that it was his turn and came to do it around 1985. My grandfather died by then (in 1981) due to the war wound that he had been suffering from. My widow grandmother told the guy what happenned. He marked something in his important book and left without installing the phone.... When my family talks about their memories from Russia it's never a happy talk. Well, sometimes it's funny but in a dramatic, i-can't-believe-it-happenned kind of way.
Capitalism works best when people have a level of ethics. But as you can see in the USA that level of ethics have plummeted and now we have to keep cleaning up the messes that were left unchecked in the 80's to early 90's. IE. Enron, MCI, etc... When we tried to help Russia change over to capitalism to many went there to rip off people and left a bad taste in their mouths for Americans and capitalism (don't blame them at all.) Each form of Government can have is good and bad, but from what I know of our version of capitalism, it is the best thing going dispite the flaws, I just hope we can somehow fix those flaws...
Do you have any idea what capitalism is? Hint #1: it is not a form of government. Hint #2: USA is a republic.
Communism only really works on paper. Im not a politician but an economist. There are a lot of theories that argue for free market which is completely opposite to command economies. USSR for example. When everything fell appart its economy could not compete in the free market without governments help. Also there is a comparative advantage theory. Basically if the country is good at growing bananas they should stick to bananas and trade with countries who are good at making cars etc This would make two countries better off in the long run. This aint gonna happen with communism... Actually... I can write an essay on this, so lets not get into too much detail.
Are you an economist? Your post sounds good, except it has nothing to do with the subject or the conclusions you come up with. Please, let us get in to much detail, write your essay and tell us as an economist with which part of Marx conclusion in capital you disagree with.
Its past 2 in the morning here dude and im a bit out of it. If you dont believe me i can take a picture of myself holding my certificate. That will be quicker.
Nah, man you can do it tomorrow. gworld is just surly because GTech and mia have to spend tonight with their wiv
I prefer to read your essay and see how you are coming up with those conclusions. I thought they were married to each other.
