Pros and Cons of SEO

    Can anybody tell me the Pros and Cons of SEO,SEM

    What role does the CMS Content Management Systems play in SEO field?

    SEO = Search Engine Optimisation, directly trying to increase the rank of your own website in search engines.

    SEM = Search Engine Marketing, using search engines to market your company or product, this could be through SEO but it can also encompass advertising on search engines, reputation management and providing content that gets picked up by search engines and points back to your own site.

    The role of CMS - well, it doesn't really have a role in SEO. A CMS can only be made to be 'SEO-friendly' but this is really a requirement of all websites wanting to do well in search engines not just CMS.

    Pros:
    SEO doesn't necessarily require financial investments.

    Cons:
    It may take weeks, months or even years to rank good SERP.

    Yeah, I would think the main con in SEO would be the amount of time involved to do it properly. You need to create good original content, build relevant backlinks, keep your site fresh and relevant to your target etc.

    If you are talking about the pros and cons of SEM. I think you have to think about the nature of your website first.

    For example, if you have a shop and at the same time you have a website, but you are not selling your products online, the cons can be that you may not really use your resources effectively. This is because traditional media such as magazine advertisement can be a better choice. Of course it will be prefect if you have enough resources to do both.

    On the other hand, if you are running an online shop, there may not be cons associated with SEM. And you may not consider traditional media before SEM.

    This is from my personal experience.

    You can find many pros in SEO. Are there cons ? I don't find.

    One con of SEO that I can think of is that people can abuse it to get ranked higher while it does not contribute to the overal quality of the Google index. In the end, finding information is what search engines are for and if you use SEO for promotional purposes, it may disbenefit the purpose of the search engine which would in the end affect us all.

    SEO however, could also be used to make information better indexable and more relyable so that Google is better able to determ the true value of the information, so that it can be presented 'to the right searchers and you will receive the people that are actually looking for the information or service that you offer.

    The customer satisfaction is priority number one. SEO can help people to better find the information or content they seek and could therefor be an important and competitive quality factor of a website.
