Proposition regarding logo/web design..

    Hi everyone,

I have been interested in photoshop for a good few years now and have taught myself pretty much all I know right from the start. I just love how versitile the programe is and just how much there is to learn from it! Oh, and I'm currently in my last year of high school..

Anyway, so a few months ago I decided to finally think about doing something with these newly found skills of mine. Logo design/web design were the obvious ones so I went about collecting information on pricing, portfolios and learning HTML.

I'm now at the stage where I believe I'm ready to start offering photoshop Logo Design as a service however I'd really like some tutoring/online help regarding web design/ecommerce design (using carts suchas Zen Cart). I can design websites in photoshop and code them using css and HTML but I want to see how a real web design business offers it to the client in terms of coding language (HTML and CSS?), using CMS? and even how easily the customer then edits the site.

Ideally this'd be great for a small logo/web designer to take me on temporarily. I'd like some help regarding the web design questions above and in return for this 'tutoring' I'd design logo's for your customers free of charge. (You may however charge the customer at your rates and keep the profit). You'd be doing me a favour by helping me out with my web design problems and I'd be doing you one also by cutting down on the amount of time speant making logos..

Don't know if this is really viable or not but I thought I'd give it a shot anyway

You can either post here, PM me or email me at: smudged(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)uk for more info..

    Thanks,
    Sam

Depending on what the client needs then you would have to use different coding language, I myself learnt php over the years so I use php to generate my HTML code and do the designing in CSS

Also in regards to CMS I provide my own code since I dont like using pre-made softwares such as joomla or oscommerce, I do it all in PHP, its pretty simple and once you made the code you can use it for all the other websites and since you made it yourself making changes and updates would be alot easier for you.

I have heard a few people talk of php in web design.. seems pretty popular. Sounds like something I should deffinatly look into thanks.
And as far as CMS go, wow. Never even thought of making my own! So does yours work the same as joomla then? Or similar..

Thanks for your speedy response :)

well as far as language goes you wont need to know php necessarily ie if you only wanna concentrate on designing and want to pass the coding part to someone else or use premade scripts, it depends what you want to focus on, I guess the reason why PHP is so popular is for two reasons:

    1. its very easy to learn (well the basics of it anyways)
    2. its free! which means its free to learn and to use, you wouldnt have to pay microsoft's license for using it like ASP

Well it works differently from joomla its mainly based on what my client requires. I just ask my clients which parts they require changing the most and concentrate my system on those parts.

This way the finished work is less cluttered unlike joomla, many things that joomla allows for users to edit is not needed or most clients wont need and just complicates things for them

Therefore my software is easier to use & learn for my users

Primarily I think I'd like to focus on designing, logos and ebay templates (which I know only require HTML and CSS).

However, php and the actual coding of websites is something that I'd like to improve on gradually over time. I'd just like to know the best route to take in which to do this.

So you designed this CMS using php? And it allows your customers to edit the sites easier?

    Regards,
    Sam

well if you are going to focus on designing for now, then no need to learn much php yet, you can start learning it by picking up the basics of it through W3Schools and then google for any other functionalities that you may require, that's how I learnt it =)

and yes my cms allows my client to add pages and many other things its for a college site and its live, just search for UK CAT College on google and its the first link

I did the design and coding for that site, all from scratch
